Ha I like it. Yeah I skipped the underscore/hyphen for that reason.

Desktop: HAL9000

laptop: HALjr

Phone: HALnano

Then HALserver, HALprinter (octoprint), HALhome (home assistant) and so on... Big fan of Stanley Kubrick haha

Tried to get the hal9.ooo domain name but it was taken...

Edit: I use Dave as the username, so that in the terminal it is dave@hal9000, which just seems appropriate

Fuck I just got rid of my 2008 BW laser brother and bought a new one that hasn't arrived. Thanks for the warning, at least I will be able to set my firewall before I even connect it to my network

I know it's been quite a while, but thanks for the explanation

You just flipped that whole thing on its head pretty well... And also reminded me of one of two most cringiest times in my life where I misgendered someone. She worked at my local grocery shop and I had known her throughout her transition, but as an immigrant in Texas I was really keen on my "yes Ma'am" and " yes Sir" and I pulled out a "thank you sir" when visiting after a long time and she called me out on it as she should have... I felt like a dick, yet somehow did it again with a student of mine years later. I wish I had my wife's excuse (she comes from a language that doesn't have gendered pronouns and goes about her day confusedly dispensing he or shes in a totally random pattern 😂)

Damn, I had forgotten about Dan, but his advice is generally solid, so... Fart yourself into a domestic partnership!

As the commenter above you mentioned regarding doctors, I have photos that probably look worse than fun in the bath pictures. As a parent, I have taken at least a handful of close up photos of genitals (and in earlier years, anuses) to show to a doctor with a befuddled and embarrassed tone of "so, is this normal? It looks weird, I was worried!" I mean to delete them, but sometimes I forget until I run into them accidentally much later on. TBH, I wish it was only on my device with no Google photos syncing, but I have also sent those to a friend's wife who is a pediatrician for a sanity check before I go on wasting a doctor's appointment over nothing...

I recently volunteered at my kids school and had to take the mandatory reporter training, which taught me that along with teachers, coaches, etc, people working at photo labs are also mandated reporters (in my state in the US), which really drove it home... I can only imagine some poor photo tech at Walmart in the 90s having to deal with finding and reporting child abuse, fuck....

I mean, it's quite clear that there are Jewish space lasers, I saw them in this documentary many years ago

Nice. Gotta wait on my paycheck but already set a reminder haha

well, when you hear from the ones you usually would donate to it's just a needed nudge/reminder haha. For me that's KDE, Internet Archive, Wikipedia and my local NPR station (national public radio in the US)

TBH, I haven't really used Kate for coding, but I vaguely remember it having a built in a terminal as a pane, like many IDEs

Ha, I use all of those except ISO image writer, which seems like a great option. But I am just curious, what does adoptable app mean? Is it some standard for being adopted into distributions?

Edit: I am stupid, just got the context of fundraising now 🤦‍♂️. Will pull out wallet for my regular donation....

So, not sure if I am completely off base here, but I had this odd thing happen today where I couldn't post an URL because whenever I did, part of it would be replaced with the text removed. You can see what I am talking about in the screenshot, and I am linking my comment below. Another commenter replied saying it was likely something related to a slur filter in my instance, so I am coming here for help to understand the issue. Sorry if this is completely wrong, I am not very well versed in the workings of the fediverse and different instance implementations. Here's the comment:

EDIT: if it matters, I am using the Boost for Lemmy android client
