Oh come on the lack of a stack system was such a positive. I loved how I could look over all profiles around me, see who managed to write more than 10 words about themselves and just send them a message. I guess that system just worked to well, I never felt the need to pay for anything

What is okcupid like nowadays? I found a partner there like 7 years ago and out of all the dating sites I've tried, it was the best by a good margin.

This is the kind of mindset that prevents mass adoption of Linux. Sure the terminal should be available but there still should be distros catering to less tech-savvy people if we want the year of the Linux desktop to arrive at all. Some governments are looking to replace Windows with Linux, and you cannot expect the average desk worker to know or even care about doing stuff in a terminal.

I feel a bit bad commenting this under a genuinely beautiful piece of art and a long, presumably informative text I didn't read, but:

I mean it's a very large country with many interesting places, diverse landscapes etc etc, I don't find it particularly strange to never have left. I wonder how many Europeans have never left Europe, though I guess the cultural differences between countries there is larger than between states in the US.

The view that public transport is not profitable because it does not directly turn a profit also completely misses the bigger picture. Imagine in a city where public transport operates at a loss, but provides transportation to and from work for loads of people. Without public transport, they'd have to switch to something like cars, causing congestion, causing delays, causing loss of profit for the city as a whole. Not to mention less time spend with your family or your hobbies, causing unhappiness, decreasing people's desire to work to the best of their abilities etc etc. I could probably go on quite a while listing things public transport provides that indirectly works in favor of capitalism.
