Moderators on a private website don't actually have to put up with Nazi liars.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Nice opinion, you're entitled to that!

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Learn the definition of "opinion."

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Opinion:

a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge

What's your point? Other than trying to discredit me by insinuating I'm an idiot?

I never thought that endorsing the freedom of speech would be so controversial!

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh, this is a much more dire educational lack than a single word. You can't even parse the meaning of a sentence. Sorry, kid.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

asks definition of a wordwhen given the definition moves the goal posts in an incredibly condescending way.

Why don't you stop criticising me as a person and say what you want to say in plain English?

I take it you can't articulate your problem with my argument and that's why you have a problem with me instead.

Ok, that's fine, but what you are doing is equating everyone that expresses a different opinion on musks salute to a Nazi, and whilst I understand why that is a popular opinion here, I don't think it's entirely helpful.

You could say it's your opinion that they are gullible, delusional, easily misled or whatever else, let me know when democracy, the rule of law and human rights are being infringed and let's talk.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If you're arguing it wasn't a Nazi salute you either never saw it on purpose or you're lying. Either way it's a sign you're a bad person and probably shouldn't be given a platform to spread hate. Sorry that's so complicated!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

I'm not arguing about Musk here, I'm arguing whether people should be allowed to express themselves.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ultimately, the only person that knows if that was a Nazi salute is musk.

As well as every person who saw him do it. It's clear as fucking day and you're lying about it. Why?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's an opinion. I'm not saying it was, I'm not saying it wasn't, I'm expressing some level of doubt, nothing more nothing less.

But I'm not here to talk about musk's salute, I'm here to say people are entitled to an opinion.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's not an opinion to say something never happened. Do you think arguing the Holocaust is a myth is just a matter of opinion, and everyone should be entitled to talk about how fake the Holocaust is and how Jews are the devil actually at all times, because that's just freedom of speech?

People are entitled to an opinion. People are not entitled to lie in public to spread hate. You are lying in public to spread hate right now. Stop it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I'm not getting drawn in to the debate of wether it was or wasn't.

I'm defending people's rights to have an opinion without being labeled a Nazi by default because it trivialises the awful crimes commited in WWII.

Denying the holocaust is a crime in some countries, and with good reason. Let me know when we're not allowed to discuss the actions of Musk.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not getting drawn in to the debate of wether it was or wasn't.

That is the entire topic of discussion. Why don't you go take a break, you seem to be having a hard time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

I'd argue that whilst it is the source of the debate that I'm currently only interested in the tangential discussion regarding freedom of speech and whether it is ok to label someone a Nazi because you disagree with them.

You can discuss Musk with other people, I'm not interested.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I can tell, you'd rather argue he's not a Nazi without discussing his Nazi salute.

You don't give a fuck about freedom of speech.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm done here, have a nice day.

whether it is ok to label someone a Nazi because you disagree with them.

In that case, yes, it's OK to call a nazi nazi.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

it's a very simple concept at the end of the day. a person is their thoughts, words, and actions. elon musk has nazi thoughts, says nazi words, and takes nazi actions. if we can't agree that musk is a nazi, it means we don't stand on the common ground of reality. it also increases the likelihood that you're a nazi a thousand fold.

good for you for standing up to this nazi.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Of course they should. And people who do Nazi expressions on TV should suffer the expected social consequences, because people should be responsible for the things they say and do.

Are you gonna defend everyone who expresses a "history of fucking your mom" this way, too?

Or are you going to admit that appealing to freedom of expression isn't really an argument in defense of a persistent pattern of behavior that includes but did not culminate with a literal Nazi salute?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes they are. And as you said, you personally should be subjected to opinion you don't like.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Exactly the point, I don't know why I'm struggling to get that across, apparently people get it when you say it!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

No, you implied that unless you can force someone to listen to you, you are being censored. You being entitled to your opinion is true. But everyone else still had the right to ignore it.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I should be allowed to play the drums in your bedroom at any time of the day or night I please and you're not allowed to kick me out because freeze peaches

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

Invasion of privacy, breech of the peace, trespassing and probably more.

Your terrible analogy has almost nothing to do with freedom of speech, if you think a redditor writing an opinion on Musk is equivalent to them playing the drums in your bedroom at night, you might be a tad sensitive.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I understand your view of free speech, but they are also correct that it is a private space like a bedroom. They are in control of that space and made a rule saying not to bring articles from X into that space. The person ignored it and argued about it so they banned them from that space. If someone says don't bring food into my establishment and I do, I have no right to be mad at them for telling me to leave. If I argue with them I have no right to superceded their banning me from their establishment. The issue isn't free speech, the issue is respecting an establishments operation policies.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Thank you for understanding that I'm only here to talk about free speech.

If the rules were no X posts, then they should've had the post taken down with a warning. I don't think a lifetime ban is a reasonable response to an undesirable opinion, I don't think it meets the requirements of hate speech which is where I'd personally draw the line.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

From what I understand from the article they did remove the post because it violated policy. It appears to me he got banned after arguing with the moderator that it wasn't a Nazi salute. My views aside, it was the person arguing the policies of the establishment shouldn't exist that got him banned from the establishment, not the post itself.

Edit: I may have this wrong though, I didn't try to investigate anything, the fact that he was bitching about it on X was enough for me to determine he wasn't worth my time. (Yet here I am talking about it .. damnit)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's exactly my point: all freedoms are limited in certain contexts.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Nothing on Reddit has anything to do with Freedom of Speech as outlined in the first amendment. The first deals with the government's ability to prevent people from saying things and nothing to do with a non-governmental organization or individual person not allowing certain content in their platform. If anything, Musk forcing Reddit to allow the content is anti-free speech.

"freeze peach" you just outed yourself as a statist

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago
