Oh man, I’ve got my nighttime routine down pat. I eat a couple pieces of fruit, floss, smoke a j with my husband, brush my teeth, wash my face, turn the heat off, and then put on face lotion, lip balm, foot lotion, and hand lotion before getting into bed. Every single night.

Do I ever remember to eat breakfast, wash my face, and brush my teeth in the morning? Maybe once a month.

You should a be careful with eating acidic fruit before cleaning teeth because the acid can slightly soften the teeth and make them vulnerable to damage through

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Between brushing and fruit is about an hour. I swear I’ve got my nighttime routine down.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Does Lemmy have a "Thanks I'm cured" community yet?

I think it is probably a good idea medically speaking but you likely know that. I've got that down as part of my routine. But perhaps it would help to write a sticky note and stick it to something you need as part of your morning activities already. Of course you need to remember to do both things then and if you're anything like me you'll forget (what) to write (on) the sticky note.

I talked to my dentist about it years ago, and he said it’s not ideal, but flossing and brushing once is better than just brushing twice, and I should make sure to do it at night. I don’t as a matter of course brush my teeth once a day, that was just third on the list. Much more commonly, I forget to wash my face and I eat breakfast about every other day, which is probably more detrimental to my health.

I don’t really need that advice though. I was just identifying with the meme and I honestly take umbrage at the fact that someone comes to the adhd subreddit and suggests “just do it” when someone’s not asking for advice. It’s not helpful nor is it constructive, and they immediately started shaming me and others about it.

Breakfast actually isn't that necessary as a meal, if you're not hungry or you don't feel the urge it's okay to not eat and hold out for lunch with just water. When I eat breakfast it just makes me want to snack more throughout the day.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Breakfast is necessary for me, because I won’t be able to eat lunch if I don’t eat breakfast and then I’m not even really hungry for dinner. It’s okay this time of year, but in the summer I need to really force myself to get some food in me because the heat of the day will further reduce my appetite and I get pukey in the sun.

I do carry snacks with me, but they’re not the ideal breakfast, and it’s much nicer when I just remember.

As a note, it’s not great advice for me that I can just listen to my body’s hunger levels, I lost 14 kilos in my first summer in my new country by doing that. I’m in contact with my doctor and we’ve figured out how I can best manage the heat and keep myself at a healthy weight, so I’m not in danger of that anymore, but that advice is not one size fits all.

Fair enough, just dispelling the common notion that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day". No particular meal is more important than another, just that you're getting the nutrition you need. It sounds like this is what works for you. Carry on :)

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Hi, I too forget to brush my teeth but I downvoted you because you're being patronising as fuck. Have a nice day.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

whats patronizing by saying please brush your teeth?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What are you trying to do when you say that, like a parent trying to make their child brush their teeth? Do you HONESTLY think anyone here isn't aware that dental hygiene is important and hasn't tried a billion ways (including begging and pleading with themselves) to get themselves to do this normal thing that normal people do with ease? Don't you think the problem MIGHT lie elsewhere, in this community about a neurodivergence? Do you need to read up on what ADHD is?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i dont need to read up on what ADHD is, i fucking have it

just speaking from experience, getting called out on stank ass morning breath made brushing my teeth every morning a surefire routine I almost never miss, just trying to help you from what i already went through

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Good job, this worked for you. It doesn't work for others.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

still no excuse to be rude and patronizing to someone trying to help

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What you said boils down to "just do it". You recognise why that's a bad thing to say, yeah?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

no it doesnt and no i dont, youll have to be clearer than that. why is it bad to say? i think its worse going around with shit breath than to tell someone to remember to brush their teeth in the morning

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Just do it" is what neurotypicals say when they want to give advice. "Just exercise more", "just do yoga", "just make a list", "just take out the trash everyday", "just put it away after you use it", "just fix your sleep", "just make an effort", "just be normal". It's not advice, it's unhelpful and talking down to a child.

Honestly weird that you say you haven't encountered it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i never said just do it so why does this apply to me?

and i also never said i never encountered it

honestly its weird you make so many assumptions on me all because i brush my teeth in the morning

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Please brush your teeth in the morning" is "just do it". Honestly, even adding "the people around you can smell your bad breath" would've been an improvement of sorts.

You said you didn't know why "just do it" is a bad thing to say which implies nobody's ever said it to you.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i figured it was obvious that people around you can smell it, why else would i tell someone to brush their teeth in the morning?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It is also obvious to adults that you should brush your teeth everyday, so why tell them?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

because they keep forgetting. so obviously a reminder helps

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, that's the reason, clearly. Maybe they also forget that people can smell their bad breath?

Also, to reiterate, this is ADHD. You're going to have to go better than one (1) reminder.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i can send messages daily if that would help you

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Good lord. Not the fucking point. Have a nice day.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

i will have a nice day thank you

also word of advice, dont mansplain what adhd is to someone who has it 😁
