From the Atlanta Daily World:

Photo: Getty Images A GOP lawmaker is facing backlash after referring to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre as a “DEI hire.” On Tuesday (July 2), Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert (R) suggested that Jean-Pierre was only hired to fill a diversity quota. “I couldn’t care less about what @PressSec has to say today,” Boebert tweeted. … Continued

So DEI now just means the job went to a non-white, non-GOP, not-male person.

Convenient.

Isn't it amazing that the people advocating for a "STricT mERITocrACY" conspicuously ignore their meritocracy is very monochromatic?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Are you denying she’s horrible at her job? She’s quite possibly the worst-spoken press secretary ever.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

I too would think that, had I just woken up from a coma and not known about the four press secretaries under Trump.

Edit: oh wait, the felonious traitor had five:

The Mooch, Spicer, Sarah "FuckTheCountry" Sanders, Stephanie "Never gave one press conference" Grisham and Kayleigh "My cross necklace proves how KKKhristian I am" McEnany.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The mooch was just perfect casting. He’s the guy you expect a person like trump to have as a spokesperson.

Too bad he lasted less than Liz truss.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

The Mooch was easily my fav press secretary from that shit show.

FYI , if you haven't seen it yet, he's one of the whales on "Killer Whales", that crypto Shark Tank knock off. The show is wild, everyone talking shit about the products, but still saying they'd support it. And the prize isn't actually any sort of money for the schemes, just a mentorship with the whales. It's absolutely great to watch with a bag of popcorn.

Anto-DEI has always been a dog whistle for racism and sexism. Conservatives will screech DEI if a woman or person of color does literally anything.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

That's what it always has meant. It threatens the heteronormative Christian patriarchal power structure to have anyone but a white man in charge of anything. And it doesn't matter that a woman is saying it because it's a woman who doesn't understand that the leopards will eat her face too.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago

"Politically correct" is old news, "woke" is losing steam, so now we move to "DEI".

Just like how it used to be "Shell shock", then it was "Battle Fatigue", and now its PTSD.

It doesn't matter how many times I see Boebert in the news - she still seems to me to be a particularly gross and nasty tweaked-out cam girl who's inexplicably been allowed to pretend to be a politician.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 9 months ago (1 children)

She got her GED so she could run for congress...

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago

BARELY got her GED and had to take the test FOUR times.

I’d smoke meth with that granny.

Maybe we could go to a dark theatre after.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 9 months ago

First "gop lawmaker" is REALLY a far too generous stretch for a boebert descriptor. "gop participant and known public handjob aficionado" maybe...

Second, the gop always DESPERATELY needs an acronym to funnel their implant hate through - seems clear that the emerging favorite these days is DEI with a hard "R". Fucking cowards.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 months ago (2 children)

A clock shaped like a pile of rancid garbage is still right twice a day, as harsh as it is.

Karine Jean-Pierre is not a very good press secretary, And while I don't know what the candidate pool was or what the vetting process was like, I think you'd be hard pressed to say that her being a black, LGBT, woman didn't at all factor into her getting picked for the job. And while that's not a bad thing, let's not clutch our pearls and pretend calling her a DEI hire is some unhinged claim.

Ask yourself this, do DEI hires exist? Yes, they often do. Does KJP tick literally all the boxes for a DEI hire? She absolutely does.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 9 months ago (2 children)

In this context, calling her “a DEI hire” means she’s not qualified. You’re saying she’s not qualified? Hey y’know who wasn’t a very good press secretary at all? Sean Spicer. Remember when he jumped in the bushes? He wasn’t a DEI hire was he? Nooooo. White men don’t need no steenking badges.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago

I will take a hundred KJPs over one Scaramucci.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (3 children)

It doesn't mean she's unqualified, it just means more qualified candidates may have been passed over in favor of her because she's more diverse. And considering how bad of a job she's doing, if you are trying to make the claim that she WASN'T a DEI hire and she was hired solely because she was the best candidate, then you are making the claim that Biden and his cabinet are so incompetent that they can't attract anyone talented who wants to work for them.

And don't deflect with "well the horrible people during Trump were worse!" Yea, no shit. It was the Trump presidency. That changes absolutely nothing about KJP and why she was hired.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago

it just means more qualified candidates may have been passed over in favor of her because she’s more diverse.

You're taking this statement from Lauren Boebert and assuming there's some validity to it. I just wanted you to know that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

So you don’t think DEI serves any useful purpose. That whenever you see people of color who aren’t good at their jobs they got those jobs just because they weren’t white. Or, just in this one, very-specific, very high-profile instance.

Hey, I get it. I know a lot of people who think like that. They don’t mean to be - y’know - dismissive of DEI (of course in Ye Olden Tymes it was called Affirmative Action). Well . . some of them did. Oh man, some of them really did, y’know. But they were struggling with their own things, and it was the style at the time.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Do you say she's not very good because you think she's unqualified?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karine_Jean-Pierre

It seems to me she has a well-developed resumé, she has held several key posts in Democratic campaigns before landing the Press Secretary gig. She appears to be objectively qualified for her job. Much more so than

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren_Boebert

Who owned a bunch of restaurants before running for office. Her main qualification semes to be that she talked some shit to an ex-member of the Cult of the Dead Cow. But the only vetting process she went through was an election.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (3 children)

I'm saying she's not very good because of her many gaffs and avoidance of questions.

And why compare her to Boebert? Boebert is a shit stain who's unqualified to work at a fruit stand, let alone be a congresswoman. You bring up her qualifications like you think it's some new info.

I don't understand how people think this type of deflection is worth anything. "You think this person is bad, well what about this other person who's WORSE?!" Yea, that doesn't make the first person better. This isn't a fucking grade school popularity contest.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Boebert is the one calling her a DEI hire, meanwhile Jean-Pierre has a Masters degree from Columbia and years of relevant experience.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I know people with PhDs and decades of experience that are still shit at their jobs.

I haven't watched any of the White House press events so I don't know how good she is at her job, but just having a nice resume doesn't mean shit.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

So you haven't observed any of her work as White House press Secretary, and the only argument that you can make against her is to invalidate her credentials and education? But hey, if they hired a woman that means that there must have been someone more qualified that they overlooked. There's absolutely no way or any reason a black queer woman could ever get into that position on merit /s

That being said, I'm not saying that she shouldn't be subject to criticism, but why not compare her performance to that of previous Democrat administrations?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

I am not arguing against her. As I said, I'm not familiar with her performance. I have no opinion on that matter.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I’m saying she’s not very good because of her many gaffs and avoidance of questions.

Yeah, totally unlike this very qualified white lady.

SLAAAAAAAAAAAAMMED

Edit: forgot an m

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Is a DEI hire bad? I don't think so. All those letters stand for good things.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I think the implication is that they're not being chosen solely on their qualifications. So that would imply a lower bar and lower performance.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Which, of course, ignores the fact that there are likely multiple people from various races, ethnicities, genders and other identities which are all about equally qualified and getting a black woman in an administration run by a white man could bring needed perspective.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago (8 children)

That's certainly one possibility. I think it's the other possibilities that folks have strong feelings about.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Well, thankfully we had a highly qualified white guy added to the Supreme Court, right?

/s for the delusional.

Of course that's the spin this psychotic cunt is putting on it, but DEI hires are a real thing, and they don't have to have a bad implication - let's not let them own this phrase.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago

Right Wingers continue to just take terms and turn them into placeholders until they crank the hard R.

Thug ---+ Woke -----> DEI

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago
  1. anything Lauren Boebert says is comedy gold

  2. if it's the ginger pistol I saw giving the press a verbal shellacking a while back, there's nothing DEI about her hire unless we count the fact she's like 91% angry viking barely restrained by some hard manners .... so, Norwegian-Canadian immigrant?

2b. Nah, I could watch her school press flacks all.freakin.day. She was on fire.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago

Ted Cruz’s former prostitute and abortion kompromat vessel called someone else DEI? That’s too rich.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

"Ohhhh, You're tough now, aren't you motherfucker... HE'S A DEI!!!! A DEI, DEI, DEI!!!! Get his DEI ass out of here!!!"

-transcript from inside the gop's cavernous heads, rolling around next to the guilt for never actually reading the bible and the last 5 grindr messages they responded to
