This is why I've been saying Kamala should pick Pete Buttigeg for VP. We could have a first and second gentleman at the same time.

Yeah, follow Germany 15 years later. (Angela Merkel as chancellor and Guido Westerwelle as vice chancellor)

[–] flicker@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Guido

oh no

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 41 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I believe Kamala would also be the first president with no children of their own, but married someone with their own children.

Apparently they call her Mamala, which is adorable.

Washington had no biological children but had multiple step children:

Mamala is very adorable.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

I was not aware of that! Thank you!

[–] Dufurson@sh.itjust.works 10 points 8 months ago (2 children)

please, don't look for what it means Mamala in Spanish xD

[–] QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz 6 points 8 months ago

And don't look for what "Kamala" means in Finnish.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (3 children)

Hey, they couldn't sell the Chevy Nova in Spanish-speaking countries either.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

My favorite counter to the myth about 'Nova' and 'no va' is that in english, you wouldn't refuse to by a dining room set called "Notable".

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

I never thought about that. Good point.

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

That’s apocryphal. Guess what the word for a stellar nova is in Spanish.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Well TIL. But then I'm guessing they won't have an issue with 'Mamala' in this context either, if they even learn about it.

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 8 months ago

I speak spanish "mamala" means "suck it" I guess some would understand some otgers would.laugh. I didn't make the conection until he mentioned really.

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah, for sure.

[–] DogWater@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I thought it was the El Camino

[–] roguetrick@lemmy.world 40 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I gotta admit, I had almost no concept of what Jill Biden looked like so I was pretty much "who the fuck is that."

[–] moistclump@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Kinda thought it was Jenna Maroney at first glance

[–] TheOctonaut@mander.xyz 6 points 8 months ago

If American elections are going to descend to the level of chaos that this year has provided, I demand at least ro be compensated by a full, in-character Jenna preferential run.

The Onion will have a field day with articles about Mr. Kamala Harris

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Weird choice of image for Melania.

[–] RIPandTERROR@sh.itjust.works 15 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago (3 children)

There are significantly less horny pictures of her to choose from.

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

Is it weird that there are significantly more horny images of her to pick from? I think it's interesting at least.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 12 points 8 months ago

It's literally her in her professional setting.

[–] randon31415@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

Doug on a mug!

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I can't wait to see what he does with the Christmas trees! And maybe the other winter holidays won't be just an afterthought shoved in a corner this year.

[–] VaalaVasaVarde@sopuli.xyz 8 points 8 months ago

Looking forward to Christmas Hot Rods

[–] TheMightyCanuck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 8 months ago

[–] dis_honestfamiliar@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (3 children)

Oh nowninhope Harris wins. What's going to be the title? Does anyone know? First lady Doug?

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 19 points 8 months ago (2 children)

First Gentleman is customary, but I dunno, I like First Spouse like in the post. Leaves an option for nonbinary eligibility.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

He's currently called the Second Gentleman.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

I'm hoping for First Dude but they're gonna do something more staid.

[–] Kiosade@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 months ago

NOW you do? Not because of literally everything evil Trump and his goons want to do to destroy this country? The fuck?

This always bothered me as a kid when Bill was president. I grew up in a Rush Limbaugh house, and the right wing folks were always joking that Hillary was a man.

I'd ask my Dad why, but he would shake his head. The only reason Rush seemed to "joke" about it was because she wore pantsuits. But I wore jeans sometimes and shorts (they're comfy and easy to wear!) But I wasn't mannish. I was a little girl? Does changing my clothes change my gender? Should I only wear skirts?

Fuck that! I hate when it's hot and my thighs get all sweaty!

Then, of course, they seemed gleeful to turn those jokes into "we were right, that's why he cheated" at the end.

It wasn't until I got older and they skipped Laura Bush and went straight back to "she's a man!" about Michelle Obama, and I realized it wasn't ever about them actually being masculine. It was just that the greatest insult men can lob at women is to insult their appearance, their femininity. And I figure that's less about these women being mannish, and more because the worst thing you could've said about Rush was that he was a weak girlyman.

I figure... that's probably part of what the whole trans thing is. Kind of how "gay" was a massive insult until people realized, oh, wait, you can't just yell "gay" at someone and make them less straight somehow. They've been using "you aren't your gender" at people for so long that seeing it not matter was fucking them up.

...and I want to add, because I'm kind of a basic bitch in a lot of ways which means if I noticed it, so did other women. "She has amazing arms so she's a man" did not stick with a lot of women. I'm sorry, sis has a body we would kill for and you're trying to use that as an insult? I know women who would politely pretend that "joke" was cute, but as soon as the asshole left would say, "...she looks like a woman! A strong one! Who wouldn't want that?"

(I've worked on customer service in the south, don't judge us for humoring crazy people.)

This ramble was brought to you by; ADHD meds haven't kicked in yet and I got to work early.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

None of it made sense to me. Especially when they started making fun of Hillary's looks right after Barbara Bush who, no offense meant to her, looked like a grandma. Hillary was 45 when Bill was elected and looked younger.

[–] clot27@lemm.ee 3 points 8 months ago

Exactly, I was just applauding her beauty in this pic, and they threw a whole ass paragraph (which I didn't even read btw)

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Wouldn't be gentleman since it's a objectively classest term in it's origin and use. Especially is a dude who isn't common and isn't a Lord but of a "good family" which generally meant wealthy and white.
