Fuck Facebook, but I must admit that’s a snazzy logo.

[–] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Just looks like a scribbled attempt at an @ to me, but to each their own

[–] mean_bean279@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago

I mean… isn’t that sort of the point though? It’s supposed to look like an @ symbol that looks like it’s being thread/is a thread.

[–] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

Even then, I'm not sure what makes that so great. Looks like what someone came up with on a doodle.

[–] ramplay@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm just confused why it's shaped like a 6 to be quite honest

[–] JonDorfman@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

They used the other style of ‘a’ to make the @ symbol look more thread like.

[–] dtb@sh.itjust.works 21 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Holy hell, we have early access phone apps now?

[–] igetzerobread@lemm.ee 21 points 2 years ago

Not even early acces, literally just a preorder so it gets downloaded ahtomatically...

[–] ulzzang 5 points 2 years ago

Weve had for a while now.. Testflight on iOS for example.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Has been a thing for years now. Especially for games.

[–] sloonark@lemm.ee 20 points 2 years ago

Instagram is still cool with the kids, which is why this is an "Instagram app" and not a "Facebook app" or a "Meta app".

[–] EricHill78@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (3 children)

They can kiss my ass. Only Meta product I use is messenger and that’s only because my wife insists on using it.

[–] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I deleted Facebook from my phone the day they separated it from messenger. That infuriated me. They later even made it impossible to use the mobile website to view messages. I’ve since deleted Facebook entirely.

[–] sloonark@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

I really like how they are two separate apps. I don't want to have to open FB just to read a message.

[–] josephramoney@mastodon.online 6 points 2 years ago

@EricHill78

you're only allowing yourself and your wife, the woman you love most in the entire world, a little arsenic each day. got it. lol.

[–] prole@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

Unless something has changed in the last 5 years or so, their Messenger app was by far the worst offender. If the app is even just installed on your phone, they are 100% harvesting all of the data on the device.

[–] donut4ever@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

No, thank you. Lemmy is where I'm at and will be.

[–] DevCat@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Oh goody. Another way I can ignore farcebook.

[–] Miqo@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Logo looks like amogus..

[–] malloc@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Instagram app. AKA Facebook owned. AKA Meta owned. AKA zuckerfuck owned.

No thanks

[–] kitsuneofinari@yiffit.net 6 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Ah this must be part of their federated project P92...

If it is, I hope all instances, whether they are mastodon, Lemmy, Kbin, etc etc... Defederate from it.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

Can I block an instance myself or do I have to join one that blocks Meta?

[–] jetsetdorito@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] OldFartPhil@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The P stands for "Piss off, Zuck".

[–] weird_nugget@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

The "P" stands for: Please for god's sake keep the Zuck far away from us and protect us from the meta virus. We want a free space in the internet where we can shitpost and be free without being surveilled and where money is not the most important thing. But yes, I like your summary.

[–] exohuman@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 years ago

I read elsewhere they are using a whitelist to only federate with the big mastodon instances.

[–] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

No thank you.

[–] wheresyourshoe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (3 children)

It's Zuck better than Musk?

[–] s4if@lemmy.my.id 10 points 2 years ago (2 children)

In terms of managing a social media sites, yes..

[–] igetzerobread@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago

yhea atleast his work

[–] wheresyourshoe@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Good point. I was thinking overall, but you're right, Zuck's the social media horse to bet on.

[–] timyoungjik@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

One of the most annoying things about Twitter is all the Elon dickriders who are always getting bumped to the top of threads because they’re the only ones paying for Twitter Blue

[–] wheresyourshoe@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Lol, I didn't know this was a thing. (I'm not on Twitter, but I am on Facebook, though it wasn't an intentional decision, it's just where my friends were).

[–] trambe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I guess Facebook and Instagram didn’t completely lui themselves yet? That’s already better than Twitter lol

[–] stinkypoopsalot@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

As janky as the fediverse apps may still be, there is no way I’m popping into that beta.

[–] JshKlsn@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

I'll never install a meta app on my phone. I'll stick with Mastodon, thanks.

[–] SevenSevenSeven@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

There is literally zero privacy on that app. They track everything.

Not available in the EU. I hope it stays like that.

[–] Thorny_Thicket@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

Is this like instagram that can also show posts from Mastodon or what's special about this? If you're looking for Twitter alternative why not just go to Mastodon directly?

[–] airportline@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

The only Twitter alternative I want to fail more than Twitter

[–] IverCoder@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Interestingly this app isn't on the Play Store yet.
