According to the side of the Kraft box, I'm a family of 4.

Zoidberg, you are a sea creature, you can probably handle a little under twice the salt a human can.

We made Macaroni and Cheese, Peas, and Bacon tonight.

That wasn't a picture of tonight's. It's an older picture. Looks the same though.

I wrote up the recipe a few years ago to add to the knowledge base at work, and I included a suggested serving size:

Customary serving size: enough to make you feel unwell, then 1 helping more

Edit:

If you want the recipe:

So, I have to ask, why peas? It's not something I would think to add to mac and cheese.

Because vegetables make the carbs, cheese, and bacon not count. It's a balanced diet!

If you just pour some green sprinkles on it then it's essential the same thing as peas as green sprinkles are the same color as peas.

In my wife's family putting peas in it is my a time-honored tradition. They even sing a little song: "Eat that mackie cheese and peas," or "Eat that mackie cheese, no peas," depending. Especially camping - they use dried peas which get rehydrated by the time it's cooked. The one additive they also like that I can't stand is tuna. In a sandwich, great, but not in my mackie cheese pleeeze.

Peas (fresh or frozen) are nice and bland without being gross about it. You can add them to all kinds of stuff and forget they're even in it. Soup, pot pies, mashed potatoes, anything with gravy or cheese, meatloaf, etc.

It just goes really well. The sweet of the peas balances the salt in the bacon.

Fair enough, I'll have to give it a try next time I make mac and cheese.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Remember to throw bacon on top of the peas ;-)

Bacon bits and peas with macaroni garnish.

It's an older picture.

But it checks out.

The meal isn't over when you're full, it's over when you hate yourself.

No matter what else he had going on, he was pretty damn funny.

Me, too, have portion control issues

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 months ago

That is the only acceptable choice

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

This is true. There is no such thing as having too much mac and cheese.

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Very Stanley Parable of him.

Easiest mac and cheese recipe that is both cheap and nearly perfect

https://www.seriouseats.com/ingredient-stovetop-mac-and-cheese-recipe

Ingredients:

  • mac
  • cheese
  • evaporated milk

Easily beats kraft for flavor. Not QUITE as cheap but pretty damn close. Same cooking time, lower effort.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

You have chosen the $10,000 American macaroni.
