Oh, look, it's the president and some random guy with a fake tan.

[–] takeda@lemmy.world 29 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Seriously though, he doesn't look well. I was suspecting Vance will try to replace him, but that might even happen before inauguration.

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I kinda wanna see trump die before the electoral votes are cast. Like idgaf about trump, but I just wanna see what happens, are they gonna vote vance in the EC vote, or are they gonna vote for the dead trump, and if vance, whos the new VP. Like this would be unprecedented and it'd be interesting to see how the process works.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

whos the new VP.

Isn't it obvious? It's gonna be Gaetz. He has nothing better to do, after all.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 15 points 3 months ago

He has nothing better to do

Girls volleyball get cancelled?

I kinda wanna see trump die

I'm not as picky about the circumstances. Meteor. Lightning strike. Vigilante. Chokes to death on Putin's dick. Stoned to death by a mob of angry nuns...

I'll take whatever we can get; the sooner that fucker bites the dust, the less death and destruction around he'll be able to sow.

Sad as fuck that our legal systems / checks and balances are so absolutely impotent that we're left hoping for a heart attack or something to literally save the planet.

Choking on a big mac on live tv would be so hillarious.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

The best possible outcome would be that he dies like a year in, Vance becomes president. Trump's policies become deeply unpopular, and even more so once he is dead and they are now Vance's policies. Republicans lose congress in the midterms, then Vance does something so unpopular that the nation screams for impeachment.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

AFAIK If Trump is voted in, and Vance takes over day 1, Vance can have 3 presidential periods, because he can still be elected twice.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That is not correct. If you serve more than two years, it counts as a term for the purposes of the 22nd Amendment.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Ah OK I wasn't aware there is that rule. I just know there have been presidents serving more than 2 periods. Because they took over from another president.

has the minimum wage gone up?

did workers get more rights?

when did we get that universal healthcare?

neither the Democrats nor the Republicans support workers

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 39 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The min wage last went up under Dems. Yes, worker rights have expanded under Dems. Yes, Dems kneecapped themselves by taking a public option out of the ACA but at least they got super close, unlike the GOP, whose best claim to policy change on healthcare was that dramatic moment when McCain stopped them from repealing the ACA.

One party wants granny to die from pre-existing conditions, the other isn’t quite left enough for you.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The min wage last went up under Dems.

Yes, worker rights have expanded under Dems

As long as you don't consider the right to strike to be a right.

Yes, Dems kneecapped themselves by taking a public option out of the ACA

They kneecap themselves a lot.

but at least they got super close

Why do Democrats keep expecting us to be happy with "we pretended to try"? And again, this was 15 years ago. You can't coast on half-accomplishments forever.

, unlike the GOP

And the assumption that all criticism of Democrats must be support for the GOP rears its head.

One party wants granny to die from pre-existing conditions, the other isn’t quite left enough for you.

One party killed the public option for you. One party made sure the minimum wage stayed low for you. You're happy with what we didn't get.

[–] wes7ley@real.lemmy.fan 23 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

You are the Karen of leftists. Never satisfied, always standing in your own way.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You just want to do as little as possible and expect everyone to your left (and only your left) to be satisfied with it forever.

ACA was 15 years ago, and was a half measure even then. The minimum wage last went up 15 years ago.

And standing in your own way is what centrists do. It's why the half measure you're still trying to coast on doesn't have a public option.

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (2 children)

What are you doing other than bitching about the opposition party on Lemmy? Genuinely curious.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What are you doing apart from demanding that people be satisfied with less just because you want them to have less?

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

It's okay, man, you're not alone. Most people don't do anything. Civic disengagement is kind of the status quo anymore.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Most people don’t do anything.

Centrists sure get mad when they think people are following the example set by their legislators.

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm not angry and I'm certainly not a centrist. All I wanna know is what you're doing to justify taking the moral high ground. Seeing an obvious problem (the DNC is a dumpster fire) doesn't get you points with anyone.

If all you do is post, you're just noise. Do you participate in any kind of direct action? Do you volunteer? Are you advocating for anything, or are you just venting?

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

All I wanna know is what you’re doing to justify taking the moral high ground.

Hmmm. Let's see. I didn't repeatedly vote to support an apartheid regime that is actively committing genocide. Democrats did. I didn't cast the deciding vote to double child poverty overnight. A Democrat did. I didn't vote against raising the minimum wage. 8 Democrats voted with Republicans to make sure the workers they hate continue to suffer.

If all you do is post, you’re just noise.

If I'm noise, ignore me.

Do you participate in any kind of direct action? Do you volunteer?

It's not like anything I do will be enough for you. I've been down this road before. The reply is always an indignant "is that all?" You're trying to shift blame from the elected officials and party leaders with whom it actually lies to one individual who has the temerity to criticize. If I'm not using every waking second and every penny I earn in a fruitless attempt to steer the party leftward, you will use that as an excuse to demand my silence regarding the rightward shift of a party that is hell bent on becoming the Second Republican Party.

Are you advocating for anything, or are you just venting?

You don't care in any event; you just want permanent silence of all voices to the left of party leadership.

[–] fukhueson@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

That does it, I'm voting Democrat!

[–] fukhueson@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I think it's this:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirvana_fallacy

The nirvana fallacy is the informal fallacy of comparing actual things with unrealistic, idealized alternatives. It can also refer to the tendency to assume there is a perfect solution to a particular problem. A closely related concept is the "perfect solution fallacy".

By creating a false dichotomy that presents one option which is obviously advantageous—while at the same time being completely unrealistic—a person using the nirvana fallacy can attack any opposing idea because it is imperfect. Under this fallacy, the choice is not between real world solutions; it is, rather, a choice between one realistic achievable possibility and another unrealistic solution that could in some way be "better".

It is also related to the appeal to purity fallacy where the person rejects all criticism on basis of it being applied to a non ideal case.

Omg. You act like Democrats have had the ability to get shit passed. Many of these things you want require Congress, and we've been locked down by Conservatives and DINO's (See Manchin and Sinema). We've never had a super majority that would allow this stuff to get passed. We have plenty of Democrats in power that are advocating for these things and we have plenty of support for the people for things like this. Things were moving in a positive direction, and sure, they could have moved faster, but at least things were becoming more progressive over time. But no no, let's completely ignore every accomplishment that Democrats have done for the last 20 years and instead hyperfixate on all the things they still haven't done.

Like, what's your point? What are you trying to achieve? Make Democrats look bad? For what purpose? Are you one of those Lemmy.ml guys?

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Omg. You act like Democrats have had the ability to get shit passed. Many of these things you want require Congress, and we’ve been locked down by Conservatives and DINO’s (See Manchin and Sinema). We’ve never had a super majority that would allow this stuff to get passed.

Only a simple majority is required to permanently do away with the oh-so-convenient 60 vote requirement of the filibuster. We gave such a majority to Democrats twice. They preferred to keep their precious relic of the Jim Crow era.

But no no, let’s completely ignore every accomplishment that Democrats have done for the last 20 years and instead hyperfixate on all the things they still haven’t done.

None of those accomplishments were the result of the sort of blithe contentment you demand.

Like, what’s your point? What are you trying to achieve? Make Democrats look bad?

No, they do that all by themselves. It's why they lose.

[–] GhiLA@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Quit defending your fucking warden, wage slave. You're even speaking for them.

The Dems were the stop-gap measure, not our personal opinions. They're corporate Democrats. They protect their own, not us. They'll take us with them if it's an option, they occasionally do, but we ain't the main focus, homie. Never have been. Apple, Meta, Tesla, they're the real clients to the Democratic party.

Fuck em both. Don't give me your half-assed freedom fighters in suits lol.

AOC is just Disney liberal.

Edit: DEFEND YOUR OWNERS, LEMMY

Biden just pardoned his son and you can't afford dental. Mad? Why? You voted for it.

[–] jeffw@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Is this you seething because Dems are trying to end subminimum wage or something?

[–] whithom@discuss.online 14 points 3 months ago

Yet crickets from the parlor pinks who pushed the maga party.

[–] OrkneyKomodo@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 months ago

I'm still trying to work out which end of the turtle Trump's head has poked out from.

[–] shoulderoforion@fedia.io 5 points 3 months ago

it'd be more informative to know which one's weren't, gotta assume they all are gonna go like some fascist used car sale

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

But mah egg pricez!
