Sleep is currently cheaper

Typical girlboss character. In the books all she did was bake cookies for Geralt and now she has a sword of course.

She a boring normal protagonist? "So WOKE! No point in even making it a woman!!!"

If she is some badass with special abilities? "So WOKE! Can't even be a normal woman!"

Women really can't win with conservatives. (I know you're being sarcastic)

Those with no common sense, spines, or anything else maybe. I'm pretty hyped!

Nobody complained when Tomb Raider came out that you played as a woman, and this was post Indiana Jones... The 'og' tomb raider.

It's because she was properly written & established & the character was fun

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

She also wasn't replacing an established male lead character, she was her own thing.

A large world like the Witcher should be the a good setting for switching up a lead character.

Certainly "Woke" something in me. 😏

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If it's obvious that this is just a typical "replace established male characters with yas, queen slay female character" writing then they'll be proven right

They've been building her up for the entire series. She's playable in 3.

That's why complaining about this would be such a joke

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Having not played any in the series but having them on my to-play list, this was my first thought. No matter how great it is, there will always be people who see a protagonist who doesn't look like them and call it woke.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's funny. I've just started Witcher 3 some time ago and one of my early thoughts was "Damn, Ciri seems much more interesting. Why don't I play as her more?"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (3 children)

What made her so "interesting" to you ? we are curious

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 months ago

So admittedly, I'm not far into the game and only played a single Ciri segment thus far as well as read a few in-game books. (Please don't spoil me.)

My main point is that she's more talkative with more personality shining through. Geralt usually answers in a short straight forward fashion and does not seem to care either way what happens to most things. Ciri on the other hand showed a clear alignment.

There's also more innate conflict about her character with her being the daughter of the Nilfguardian king as well as the Elder Blood thing (I've only read the book of the same title). While someone already spoiled me that she gets kinda OP because of the later, I think there are more options for interesting power progression with her. I've read all skills Geralt can learn and I'm quite sure I'll be playing in a similar way towards the end of the game as I do now, just popping more potions. In addition, the only innate conflict with Geralt so far (and from what I remember playing WItcher 2) is whether to romance Triss or Yennefer (and I've got no horse in that race, neither of them is my type).

Lastly, while it wasn't a plot point in Witcher 3 yet, Geralt does lose a lot of points for being a (former?) amnesiac.

My stance could change, but that's my current view about 15h in. Currently doing the Keira questline with the ghost lamp.

You don't think Ciri is an interesting character? I don't really get what you're asking here

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Is the model for Ciri millie Bobby brown? Can't unsee it now that I've thought that...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I can smell poor writing form a mile.

Ciri going through mutations, is utterly wrong concept.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, not to be pessimistic but I'm a bit scared that they'll just turn her into a gender-swapped Geralt. Ciri has her own things going on that make her special and an interesting character, she doesn't need Witcher mutations

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Game director already confirmed she went through the trials in an interview.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Didn't we know she did in 3?

ETA: it's the only one I've played.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

She didn't. Witchers never considered doing that to her, not in the games, nor in the novels

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Ah. Well she was trained as one right? Cause that whole flashback at the beginning of 3.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah, she was - but it was just the training

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Why don't we just..... Wait and see?

This is 2024-25 you should know better by now, hence people being skeptic
