Anybody who thinks joining BRICS will give them financial or physical security is a fool, tbh, but I can't find it in me to condemn proper incentivized diplomacy.

Idk, they've bailed out entire nation's failing economies. It's not like they started repossessing furniture or anything, lol.
EDIT: I do admit they can be weaponized by refusing to work with nations on the basis of political alignment.
IMF have usually demanded austerity which usually leads to government schemes for the poors to be cut. They also demand political alignment to western demands.
They don't respossess the furniture but they do require it to be sold
If you're at a financial table with Belarus, think twice
so altogether maybe these newbies will have a GDP < 10% of China, and China will still have a GDP larger than all the others combined.
