I was watching Moral Orel's special Before Orel: Trust and thought it was pretty decent. It wasn't like some of the other post-cancellation or ending specials I've seen that seem like crowdfunded nostalgia cash-ins or like they could have been a "where are they now" voice over during the ending like The Sandlot, Stand by Me, or Fast Times at Ridgemont High had. I'm wondering what specials stood out to people. I'm not talking about shows that were cancelled and returned or spun off into another series. I was going to put best or worst in the title but a lot are just mediocre.

Dexter managed to utterly fuck it's ending up, come back, redeem itself, then utterly fuck the ending again. And now it's getting both a prequel and another sequel series, the former of which seems to be getting good reviews so far.

I want to see if it can pull off the "fuck it up, redeem, fuck it up" trick for four consecutive shows in a row. I believe it can.

Most of the ones I can think of were movies to wrap up shows cut short. For example the original Full Metal Alchemist show had a movie, but it was pretty bad in my opinion (very little to no alchemy and a weird alt history element).

Similarly the original teen titans had a movie that took place in Tokyo. It was definitely better and felt more like an extension of the show.

During covid there were a lot of mini reunions, but I felt like those were more "what else are we gonna do" and so we're more all over the place.

The Psych movies are great, though some people didn't like the first one

Babylon 5 had half a dozen made for TV movies after the show ended. Some were good and provided a different viewpoint to a story that had been told before, some expanded, others were redundant retelling.
