I'm not certain this film should be made, but if it's going to happen hopefully it can include Mark Hamill and we can get closure on what Luke tried and how Rey can learn from it.

Luke earned the chance to try and rebuild the Jedi, it's only fair that he at least gets a chance to redeem his failure.

What failure?

Bad writing, mostly.

To create a new Jedi Order. Kylo/Ben burned it all.

In Mark Hamill's own words "that's not Luke Skywalker"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Unless there is another quote the exact quote is, "he's not my Luke Skywalker", which is true.

The Luke Skywalker we got in the sequel trilogy is not the Luke Skywalker I would have written. It's a shame they story that was told.

However the Luke Skywalker we saw in The Mandalorian? That's the Luke Skywalker I want to see. It's not perfect, but it's damn good.

So if we're doing a Rey film, and she wants to start a Jedi Order, then I want to give Luke the chance to show what he did. Show what worked. We can't take back the sequels, they happened. But we can do what Dave Filoni has been doing for years and fill in some gaps.

His death was a bit of a failure IMO, he used the force so hard he died lol

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He astral projected himself from god knows how many light years away, a feat of the force I imagine would be incredibly taxing for even a young prime Anakin Skywalker, having not used the force regularly for only he knows how long because he cut himself off from it.

The Last Jedi has its problems, but Luke's manner of death is one of the few things that's fine with regards to Luke IMO.

But what did he accomplish? He was basically a distraction, why didn't he ACTUALLY go there. He died a loser hermit who was too afraid to actually join the battle. Made no fuckin sense to have him "sacrifice" himself for basically no reason.

The last we ever saw of Luke Skywalker was in Mandolarian. We know nothing of Luke's story after that.

Edit: guess I was the idiot and missed a joke somewhere

The sequel trilogy was widely despised because it just wasn't good.

Why make more content based on it? That doesn't make sense to me.

To bring value to shareholders no matter the cost, of course. Why else would you make a movie?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

They can bring value to shareholders by making good movies people actually want to watch.

I thought we were done with her and anything prominently Skywalker related?

Besides Andor, everything since TFA has just ended with disappointment. A film for everyone is a film for no one.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Skeleton Crew is also really good. It's not on the same level as Andor, but it's the only other thing worth a chance.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Skeleton Crew is painful to watch if you're over the age of 15

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

I disagree, but maybe it's because I have kids of my own now.

Thanks for posting this... I've not seen it and have been on the fence.

I'll check it out.

Do we have to keep rehashing the Jedi/Sith duopoly? I was sorely disappointed with the missed opportunity to have Ben and Rey travel the galaxy preaching a new dogma; “the Force belongs to everyone”.

no fuck this no

I enjoyed "The Adjustment Bureau", which this new writer (George Nolfi), directed.

This project is still doomed though - having both Damon Lindelof and Steven Knight walk away from it is not an encouraging sign.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Anything that Damon Lindelof isn't a part of has a chance of being good, though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I used to think the same about Lindelof, but I like The Hunt (2020), and things like Watchmen and The Leftovers have been critically praised. I decided that I'd unfairly lumped him in with JJ Abrams and his gang. As with Knight though, whatever you think of his stuff, he's an experienced writer, and both of them nope-ing out of whatever it is that Disney wants doesn't auger well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

It could just mean they're leaning away from depressing melodrama.

Honestly I just wanted to take the piss out of Lindelof. He's a talented writer... but like Abrams, what he creates isn't good. It's just easy to consume for the masses.

No one asked for this.

Anything but old republic

I'm sure it was a popular ad on Fiverr.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

We get better Star Wars when they stop beating the long dead horse that is the Skywalker saga. Just bury it already.

"Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson [were the initial writers] on the project, working on it before Obaid-Chinoy..." Jesus h Christ...
