I honestly still cannot comprehend what made them so popular.
They are essentially heavily punctured galoshes, combining stiffness with total lack of water protection - you normally prioritize wearing comfort or protection, but crocs uniquely suck at both.
To me, this will likely remain an example of an idiotic design popularized against common sense.
They don't feel stiff at all and they're incredibly soft to walk / stand in for hours. On top, they're water proof, so they clean easily. You can get models without the holes.
I think it's manly that people have different types of feet. I have a ton of arch in my feet so crocs just don't give me the support I need. But the same goes for flip flops and slides. I usually have to wear arch inserts and those just don't work in more casual shoes.
And they're ridiculously expensive for some injection molded foam rubber. You don't have to cut or sew leather or fabric, or bind soles, or punch holes for laces like with a shoe/boot. Manufacturing them is cheap as shit. So why do they cost so much?
$40-50 for a shoe that lasts half a decade doesn't seem bad. What do you think they should cost?
They only last that long if you only use them to fetch the mail or take out the trash.
You clearly never wore Crocs. They are so comfortable, it's ridiculous. Not to mention practical. Easy to put on and clean.

No, I'm serious. I don't have crocs for a variety of reasons, so I'm ignorant and possibly a my own expense. I have slid my feet into other's once or twice, you know, when visiting and needing to cross a wet yard, and they've always felt uncomfortable to me.
Easy to put on, I get, but that's true of half the shoe designs out there. Cleaning... Ok I can see that. Spray them down with a garden hose, right? But comfortable? Can you explain that?
I, too, am curious about the appeal. Not enough to wear a pair, but perhaps you can explain. Are they like leather, and conform to your feet over time?
The point is, they aren't just easy to put on, but won't easily fall off. As for the comfort, they are made from soft foam and the sole is around 3cm thick. So they are just soft. But You really need oryginal Crocs, not any knock off, as they don't have anything in common except the shape.
Ah, then maybe I've never worn actual Crocs. The ones I tried felt really plastic-y.
I own a pair of Croc brand flipflops. They're essentially a Croc sole with a toe-thong on top. They're the most comfortable flipflops I've owned and they've lasted years longer too.
Because they are surprisingly comfortable, I actually wear them all the time in the house.

They were initially meant as boating shoes and they work great for that.
They are extremely uncomfortable though
Yeah I bring em for camping trips. You don't have to worry about them getting dirty, plus they're useful as shower shoes. Easy to hose down.

I bought a set without holes. Like, for professional kitchen workers or nurses when you don't want fluids getting on your foot.
