Nobody who voted for Trump actually cared about lower grocery prices. There are racist, bigoted, xenophobes, who only want to hurt people they don’t like. And they love Trump because that’s exactly what he is doing.

And that’s why this sort of attack won’t work. Because, even for those who voted for Trump, who don’t explicitly hate anyone not like themselves, they are delusional enough to never be able to admit they were wrong and to blame anyone who points it out to them for their troubles.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

For MAGA types, sure but there are a small yet significant subset of Trump voters who were that dumb and those are the ones that will actually care about this shit. For crying out loud when you have states that Trump won by less than 30K votes, yeah those idiots matter.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I agree with this. Every now and then I think I meet someone who really is worried about grocery prices but then I thought well no cause that just means they’re more worried about grocery store prices and they are about race bigotry in xenophobia.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

they’re more worried about grocery store prices than they are about race bigotry

So... wouldn't appealing to their grocery store prices mean something, then?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Christ, if you stopped trying to judge the moral rightness of voters for half a minute you might figure out how to actually win an election.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This is just a straight up bad faith argument that ignores how colossally the DNC failed in November. There absolutely were millions of Americans who were fooled into thinking that Donald Trump was going to care more about their economic pains than Kamala Harris was. Now, I don't think any of these people would identify themselves as a Trump supporter, they probably called themselves "Undecided" before the election, and I don't think these people want fascism. I think those are the people this ad is trying to reach, the ones who voted for him purely out of economic anxiety who didn't seriously believe the warnings they received of what Trump would really be about. To these people, we call Trump a Nazi the same way he calls Harris a Communist, so they didn't listen. Maybe they'll listen now, and we still need their help if we're to have any chance of getting out of this mess now.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

Maybe they’ll listen now

Lol you had me going there

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

This is completely false. They cared about grocery prices. Trump blamed it on immigrants. Biden said the economy was great.

They were both wrong but that does not mean the concern did not exist.

Why is it all about eggs? What about everything else?

[–] [email protected] 46 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It's short and sweet and to the point, and you used to be able to get eggs for like a buck fifty, so it's an easy target.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

Sam's Club used to have 5 DOZEN for 10 DOLLARS

I don't think they bother to sell whole eggs at all anymore

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Also, there are empty shelves where eggs used to be. I went to Costco this week and they were all out.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It was never about eggs.

The peope who voted for this don't care.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Prices/inflation are a convenient excuse for voting for Trump. It's the reason polite people use to justify their vote knowing everything they do so they can continue going through polite society.

In reality, they're just bigots, christofascists, etc. (source: my family)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Exactly. It was a convenient excuse. Just like how they hate unelected bureaucrats but Musk is somehow fine as an unelected bureaucrat.

Hypocrisy is an expression of power over others. I get to do this, you don't.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I don't think that's actually true. Sure, the people who voted for him are largely also racist, but I think inflation did push many otherwise apathetic voters to oppose Biden (or Harris, if they realized Biden wasn't running). Those people are probably mildly racist too, but it wasn't the reason they voted.

Eggs are both especially expensive due to bird flu and a cheap staple that many people relied on. Everything has gotten more expensive due to inflation but they made an extreme and relatable example.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Gas has gone up nearly a dollar in my area since the inauguration. I still see bumper stickers saying “if you voted for Biden you owe me gas money” on the monster trucks people drive here.

Related note: There are some good vegan eggs out there to give a try!

If you want something that cooks and bakes like eggs there's stuff you can by like Just Egg

For baking there's a million things you can use that are pretty cheap. For instance, Aquafaba is the leftover water from cooking chickpeas or the water in the can if you buy it canned. Acts like egg whites and can be used as a binder for baking

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The problem with the usual egg substitutes is that the corporations have jumped on the price increase there, too. By me, at least, it is still cost prohibitive to get ready-made egg substitutes.

The garbanzo water trick is useful, though.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

There's way more stuff out there than aquafaba and Just Egg - I should note

Everything from flaxseeds to applesauce to silken tofu (as a binder) or firm tofu (as a scramble) to chia seeds and more

If you can get some Mung Bean you can even get something extremely similar to Just Egg for a lot cheaper

Try ground flax seed. It can be pretty cheap.

As long as the aquafaba is salt-free, it makes an awesome substitute for egg whites in mixed drinks. Whiskey sours are absolutely elevated with this substitution.

And this comes from a guy who isn't a vegan. Try it out, folks. You won't regret it.

Somehow I think that leaving the WHO, and gutting the CDC, and NIH won't help egg prices... We'll just have another pandemic as some super resistant bird flu strain rips through the nation

I think the egg pricing is one of the biggest moronic things that Trump fooled his dumb voters into buying.

Because the egg prices weren't inflated by corporate greed (least mostly). If anyone cared, the bird flu thing is happening, which is the cause. So, Trump's entire pitch was that he'll find someway to lower prices of something that was affected by something else that can't be fixed and is currently spreading. Since Trump is both a denier of anything so much as a pandemic and a poor economist, he pushed through the promise of lowering egg prices anyways.

And guess what? It's been closing in a month since he's been in and what's that? Egg prices got higher? Whaaaa?? The Bird Flu is spreading? Whaaaaa?

Stupid fucking Americans.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

Everything was highly inflated due to multiple years of >7% inflation. Egg prices are exceptionally for the additional reasons you gave but everything is exceptionally expensive still, not just eggs. They're not stupid for thinking things are inflated (because they are) which sounds like the point you're trying to make. They are stupid for not understanding the nuances of why everything is inflated. But give me a voting population that does. 2024 was a devastating year for all incumbent parties globally because everyone is feeling the pain of COVID and corporate greed

No, they fucking aren't. But people like fElon and donvict don't shop for groceries, so who GAF? Being concerned about grocery prices is something for the peasants to worry about.

Now that they have the vote of idiot leftist contrarians, horrible racists, clueless low-info voters, etc....they don't give a fuck. They'll do just whatever the fuck they want now and the people that sat out or voted for donvict will have to suffer not only his agenda on breaking America, but also very expensive groceries. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to suffer along with them...

Are my eggs in the fridge appreciating? Where's the break-even on sell vs spoil?

[–] radiohead37 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Are you tired of winning yet?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Golden Age of America! As golden as the showers Trump allegedly had in Moscow.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yes because Trump was the one that released the bird flu that wiped out the American chicken population right before he took office...

Like there are so many valid reasons to call out Trump, but this one is stupid. Sometimes I swear y'all just like taking the bait.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Trump in a grocery store in August 2024:

“When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One."

He owns it. Whether he actually had any power to affect this is not our problem.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Trump says a ton of shit he either never has any intent to follow through on or just to get under the skin of some people.

Anyone with half a brain knew he wasnt the cause or going to immediately fix the problem that started before he took office.

But the far right maga ballsacks garglers will eat it up and believe everything he says. But also so does the left apparently. It's literally a free win for Him every single time he says shit like this. His base gets happy. His haters get distracted. He gets to do other shit while y'all argue under every post about it.

Meanwhile anyone with a fuckin brain knew he didn't cause the egg shortage and he certainly wasn't going to be able to fix it right away.

Stop falling for his bait. Y'all do it so goddamn often. You guys even talk about how you get stuck in a smoke screen. Or how they "flood the zone" and yet here you all are falling into that same goddamn trap again.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This isn't people falling for Trump's bait. This is people hitting back at Trump's popularity, which he does care about. They're pinning this failure to him. Sticking to one point which particularly impacted voters is a good strategy.

I feel like the egg/grocery thing is more targeting the people that voted for him with grocery prices as the reason which is IMO a dumb reason to vote for anyone particularly with all the bigger problems right now

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

What I find interesting is none of the local people selling eggs have increased their prices. They are all $5 a dozen (mostly for ease of payment in a lockbox). They have been that price for almost a decade and are still that price.
