the internet is so much better without emojis
linuxmemes
Hint: :q!

Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
- Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry will not be tolerated.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudo
in Windows. - No porn. Even if you watch it on a Linux machine.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
5. π¬π§ Language/ΡΠ·ΡΠΊ/Sprache
- This is primarily an English-speaking community. π¬π§π¦πΊπΊπΈ
- Comments written in other languages are allowed.
- The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
- Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
6. (NEW!) Regarding public figures
We all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations. - Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
- We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
- Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed. Β
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.
Honestly I've never had an easier time getting that sort of thing to work than on linux. As soon as there's a font installed providing emoji pretty much any program will pick up on that. Even got a Toki Pona font working just by installing it. Now I can IRC in languages no one speaks!
ππi cant πsee any of tπππhese at all, for meπππ this message has ππno πemojisπππππππππ
edit: fixed it by reinstalling nixOS, still have a minor nerd font issue. i also switched to nixOS 24.11 in the stable branch
average arch experience
why, nixOS? Why?? is this what i get for using the unstable branch?
Well...yes?
Like living in a house constantly undergoing a remodel. Sometimes the plumber is going to accidently route the toilet drain pipe to the shower head before the inspector gets there to check it.
That is one of the most horrible things I have ever fucking read.
Kind of like bathroom scene in βThe Man With One Red Shoeβ, only that scene is funny, not gross.
Oh no
Oh no is what i thought when i saw that the volume icon in my waybar also dissapeared for some reason
If you're using flatpak and Firefox you have to un-sandbox the font files from both flatpak and firefox's content sandbox
I'm using NixOS and Zen Browser, switching to the stable branch and reinstalling NixOS fixed the emoji issue
Works for me on Arch btw

Which side are you on?
- People use too many emojis
- There's not enough variety of emojis
I'm on the side of "THERES NO FUCKING TRAFFIC CONE EMOJI?? I SWEAR THERE USED TO BE ONE, WHERE DID IT GO?!?!!"
VLC icon, obviously.
VLC's agenda has always been being the only traffic cone. It even stands for Very Large Cone.
Don't fall for Big Cone's agenda.
Thereβs definitely a- hey, wtf? I swear there was one. Is this a Mandela effect thing? Like, there used to be one but we suddenly, somehow got switched to this weird timeline where it doesnβt exist?
πthere is a rotating adress organizer thingy yet no traffic cone? This is bullshit.
there's a trackball emoji too, when is the last time I even saw a trackball π²οΈ
- i π want π emojis π in π my πterminal
I want more and I know I shouldn't.
i'm on the π‘ help my emoji has no face the sparrows stole it again
I this some sort of dependency joke I'm too Fedora to understand?
Y'all don't cli with emojis???
What the fuck!?
β οΈπ¦β«π updates the system
What is this? Fischer-Price CLI for toddlers?!?
Exactly, now input your emojipass.
Funny thing is that the only place where emojis were working before I fixed it was the foot terminal emulator lol
You send me a π, I send a π₯ back.
You send a π‘, that's pretty abstract.

is that a button or a futuristic flying police car
It's a trackball mouse, but I like the police car interpretation! :D
Imagine sentences being any more than n+1 bytes
There are emoji selectors for linux. But i don't use emojis on a desktop os
