I have no clue about that Laptop but I'd take the back cover off, unplug the battery and look at the traces coming from the USB, testing the components in the path with a multimeter, hoping to find a fuse or fusible resistor, or a diode that has been blown by a short.
I have a multimeter and always wanted to know how someone goes about doing that kind of test. I’m still pretty new at knowing how to properly use a multimeter. I guess this is a good place for me to start testing. Thanks for the advice and direction.
Assuming you haven't, and also can (I'm sure dell didn't want you poking around in the laptop), I would suggest taking the bottom cover off and looking at the solder joints on the port, or daughter board with the port on it if it has one, or both!
Definitely done that but no obvious signs of damage there. Also tried seeing if the port wiggles to indicate poor/weak solder points but none there either. It’s still on there as if it came stock. Thank you for the advice!
