GOP then: "i'm voting for trump because he'll make everything cheaper!!!"

GOP now: "REAL americans are happy to overpay for everything for dear great leader trump!!!"

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 53 points 5 days ago (4 children)

Okay this is not really that relevant here...but my father who works for the government in one of those everyone is probably getting fired soon but who knows... Anyway I was talking on the phone with him and he said "I'm worried about my job I don't know what I would do .. but I'm glad they are getting rid of all that waste in the government spending"

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

people would rather be broke, jobless, the opposite of free, and be regarded as stupid--rather than simply admit they made a major life-wrecking mistake

tell your dad that i, for one, hope he enjoys his suffering

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (6 children)

You know, you're no better... You shouldn't want people to suffer... That's how we got here... Instead of boosting people up and encouraging people to be better... People like you wish people would suffer...

Maybe you will take some time to reflect and be a better person...

Edit: clearly we are all doomed to be assholes and divided... Maybe instead one day you will see who the real enemy is...

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

yea, no.

look where all this "let's be nice to the very fine people on the nazi side" and tolerance and patience and we're not going to publish this article because it'll hurt trump's feelings has gotten us today. excuse me, but fuck that shit.

you can say i'm a bad person if that makes you feel better, but fuck trump, and fuck everyone who voted for this bullshit that everyone has to deal with now

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Did I say that though? I don't think I did... Not liking someone and not criticizing them because they are a bad person is not the same thing as wishing they were a better person... You can do those things at the same time...

No one said be nice to Nazi... You just want them not to be... And maybe if you can do something to help them. instead of you know wishing that they would suffer.

Especially when all of the wrong a lot of these people did was vote for someone because they were told lies about how things would be better...

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

all of the wrong a lot of these people did was vote for someone because they were told lies about how things would be better…

ok you're trying to defend trump voters as if they're somehow "victims of dishonesty." again, no.

after the first trump term, the abysmal covid response, the 2 impeachments, J6, the classified documents, and on and on and on, while normal people were doing everything they could to convince these people that they've been hoodwinked, FOR YEARS, demonstrates that the "let's talk about it and compromise" approach DOES. NOT. WORK. mockery and ridicule and unwell wishes it is.

again (and again and again), fuck trump, and fuck trump voters. yes i fucking do want them to suffer the way everyone else is suffering. i don't know what gives you the impression that you're going to change my mind about that, but i guess...go get'em tiger...?

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You're turning this into something it's not about...

Just do better and help people be better man... How is that too much to ask?

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

trump and his sycophantic goons are actively wrecking this country and democracy. it could be reasonably argued that the point of no return has already passed. it's really rich that you're telling ME to "be better" in this situation, but i'll bite: what's your suggestion for "help people be better"? inform people who deliberately dismiss facts and evidence they don't like as "fake news" that they've voted for a conman? be specific, because people have been trying the "let's respect the viewpoint of the rapist felon voters" approach for years, and look at where we are.

so EXACTLY what is it that you think everyone should do?

if you sit down to dinner with 8 people and 1 of them is a nazi, you're eating dinner with 8 nazis

[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

When they voted for their own suffering, I find it difficult to sympathize with them.

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

And just because you didn't vote for a racist sexist committed felon, means you're better?

Because your party is so great and wants you to prosper? Or is it just controlled by corporations and billionaires with the same agendas?

[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

And just because you didn't vote for a racist sexist committed felon, means you're better?

Yes.

Because your party is so great and wants you to prosper? Or is it just controlled by corporations and billionaires with the same agendas?

Don’t know when I said anything about parties or what I think of Democrats. Pretty sure that’s an entirely different topic. (I think they’re the controlled opposition party, for what it’s worth.)

A bit of schadenfreude should be expected after a decade of listening to the schmucks spouting off "F your feelings" while getting offended that someone chose a different pronoun. That doesn't mean that forgiveness isn't possible from one side, but remorse is necessary for forgiveness to be available. That would mean remorse for creating the issue our country is faced with, not just for their personal circumstance. So far that's all we've seen

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago

Sure, he raped me, but he was really having some emotional difficulties at the time. I really can’t thank him enough.

[–] fibojoly@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

Your jesus like approach is nice and all, but a lot of people seem to only learn their lesson after they have suffered. I think we shouldn't rejoice in their suffering and instead hope they learnt a fucking thing, but given their stupidity literally cost lives, I'd say you shouldn't be surprised at people enjoying a bit of Schadenfreude.

[–] girlthing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

For what it's worth, I agree with you in this case, and I'm sorry about your Dad. I hope he sees reason soon.

[–] techclothes@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

That they think the waste is people's jobs and not the billions we pour into corporations is equally frustrating and mind-boggling. I stopped talking to my parents because I just can't handle these kinds of conversations. They reek of dishonesty.

[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

Did you say, ‘You mean like you?’

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 days ago

It's gobsmacking how brainless the cultists have become.

[–] lupusblackfur@lemmy.world 71 points 5 days ago (2 children)
  • it’s not happening
  • it’s not our fault
  • it’s not that bad <--- WE ARE HERE...
  • it’s too expensive to fix
  • it’s too late

Move it down one notch for climate change. :)

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Nah they are pushing back up to the first notch

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

That's the trick with climate change, just cycle through the first 4 every other month till the 5th becomes true

[–] Einstein@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago (3 children)

We're at the it's too late stage for that though :(

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

No, it'll still get even worse if we don't take action.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

One bright spot of a big American economic crash would be the correlated plunge in carbon emissions. Those first few months of COVID were fantastic for emissions rates.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

The next four years of dismantling the little progress we’ve made while actively making things worse, are really going to hurt

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Oh yeah, I just meant that in terms of how conservatives talk about it. We finally passed the "it's not our fault" with them several years back and we're still on "it's not that bad" and walking right up to "it's too expensive to fix."

Once they finally admit it's too late, it will be because they've firmly turned to ecofascism with the argument "Only WE are so smart and clever as to know how to properly dole out what's left of dwindling resources effectively and efficiently!" which is code for "We want to party until the planet burns and nobody is going to stop us!"

[–] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

It may be too late to prevent the fallout entirely, but it's never too late to mitigate at least some of the damage.

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I think it was 7 steps I think it had a "is actually good" second and I'm pretty sure a "You deserved it" last or second to last but I thought the same.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I'm seeing quite a bit of "You deserved it" right now. Lots of "Actually, I just avoid buying things, so now the higher prices don't bother me" cope all over /r/conservative and like-minded reactionary media.

Poverty fetishism, cottage-core influencing, a proliferation of reactionaries in DIY spaces, and always a healthy supply of "we just didn't go far enough" revanchism has been trending for a while, but its seeing a new renaissance with the looming recession.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 65 points 5 days ago

That's called a cult

I called this in a comment a few weeks ago. It's going to be a badge of honor for some of them.

Republicans in 2025: Paying high taxes on essential goods to Own the Libs!!!!

[–] suigenerix@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago (1 children)
  • Dying of covid to own the libs.
  • Losing their jobs to own the libs.
  • Losing their social security to own the libs.
  • Losing their health care to own the libs.
  • Breathing increased pollution to own the libs.
  • Paying higher prices to own the libs.

Shooting themselves in the foot over and over... "Ha! Take that libs!"

(Sooooo much winning /s)

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

There's a squishy American centrist block that just gets mad any time there's any degree of adversity (or just negative news media on their screens) and decides to vote the most reactionary candidate on the ticket in response.

Conveniently, Democrats have been marching to the right in order to sweep up those votes. Expect a lot of "Republicans are turning American into SOVIET RUSSIA! and we need the free market to fight back!" liberal campaigning in 2026.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

They only care because then you'll be captive to buying the shitty products they control in the US. That's the entire grift.

They can't control international goods at lower prices, so they'll force you back to buying from the already wealthy in control of goods and resources here.

[–] Crazyslinkz@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Definitely looks like the end game here. Privatize everything and profit off of it in as many ways possible.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

To be fair if Trump causes fuel prices to skyrocket he might go down as one of the greenest presidents in recent history.

[–] DoubleSpace@lemm.ee 4 points 5 days ago

What if they reduce climate impacts by engineering a global famine?

I think billionaires finally admitted to themselves that the world's economies, ecological systems, and countries population trajectories were fundamentally broken, and our flawed democratic institutions were not cut out for fixing any of these existential problems.

This is part panic, cannibalizing, and power consolidation.

Convince me think isn’t a deranged cult.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

So they want the Dollar to be like the Japanese Yen?

[–] ycnz@lemmy.nz 3 points 5 days ago

I'm certainly welcoming their pain.
