I am a beginner, though have played Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl long ago as a novice on a low end system.

Even my present system is not good enough with Zen 2200G CPU, RX 7600 GPU, 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM and game installed on HDD. Windows runs off an NVME SSD.

I am fed of compiling shaders each time it launches as I am trying to find a playable set up. Presently it is running so hot that it semi-cooked my SSD and it disappeared from BIOS on boot. After waiting for a day, it is working again now luckily.

I am trying to understand upscaling so that game will be rendered at lower resolution taxing my CPU less and then upscaled to 1080p if possible or 1600x900 at least.

What type of upscaling should be selected? I do not have dlss option which is most recommended in online guides. I have FSR. What does the percentage below mean?

Is this ready for mainstream?

I think that heavily depends on what is being defined as "mainstream".

Is it the same buggy, broken mess it was during the first week of launch.....no.

Is it a smooth bug free well optimized game. Not even fucking close.

You still need a pretty decent beefy system to play it comfrontably and even then it's still littered with problems.

The nature of the game is also not necessarily mainstream friendly at it's core. Fans of the series love the lack of fast travel and the long, tense walks between locations for literally 20 minutes at a time with nothing much happening (I am one of those fans). But I can't pretend that's not an acquired taste at the very least.

100% true, but I also feel like Stalker 2 has pandered more to those casual gamer audiences since they clearly can't survive as a game developer off of us fans alone.

Stalker 2 definitely feels less abrasive and challenging than previous titles and mods.

But I also have hundreds of hours in GAMMA and Anomaly so I've got my biases and know how Im suppose to play. I am use to being aggressively abused and punished by the game, which is a very different experience from the casual "mainstream" gamers.

Yeah if you come from modded Anomaly S2 will feel downright casual, but it's not even necessarily the challenge that would turn off mainstream players though I think but the pace. Stalker has always been a very slow game (and we love it for it!), but that's a tough product to sell in today's attention economy.

On a side note, if you're into GAMMA etc and truly hate yourself you can check out Stalker A.R.E.A.. I was playing around with it a bit just before the release of S2. Disgusting stuff.

I mean...that kinda counts for all the stalker games. They shine despite their flaws...
Would be nice if the req system specs were a bit lower, might be able to play it in a decade 😭
