Somehow the real eye opener that they are using signal is glossed over when the real news should be that they are not doing this via proper channels?

[–] [email protected] 83 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Yeah I read in another article that they're set to delete all messages after X amount of days which completely violates government record keeping laws.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Who enforces those laws and will they do it within the decade?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 days ago

IIRC, there's no actual punishment and those laws were basically designed to give Congress a way to impeach.

The Kremlin

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Originally it was set to 1 week but halfway through the conversation it was updated to 4 weeks

The whole conversation was published

The senate intelligence committee meeting that happened a couple hours ago made me start greying, Tusli Gabard in particular

Is it a coincidence that the person who wrote press release announcing Mike Waltz’s nomination is called Richard Goldberg, that he worked in previous Trump’s administration and is an expert on Iran/Houti? Did Waltz add Jeffrey Goldberg totally by accident or did he simply confuse the Goldbergs?

It's just something I found, no idea how plausible it is. It does look like a pretty big coincidence to me but no one is reporting on that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The man wrote an op ed for AP about him from what I saw. He also used to do work with the national security council iirc. Seems very plausible

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Both Waltz and Goldberg work for FDD. My theory: Waltz is paid by FDD, wanted to do them a favor and keep them in the loop on Houti attacks so he adds their Iran expert to the chat. Well, tried to add...

Trying to fall on the sword but missing it completely is typical GOP syncophant behavior.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 3 days ago

I think it's more like he fell near his sword such that it went harmlessly in between his arm and side, played dead for a few seconds, then checked through one half-open eye to see if anyone bought it.

I mean I know most of this admin are complete buffoons, but for some reason I can't give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe because it took this long to own up to it, and other people in the group chat denied multiple times that it even happened.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Will he get a lifetime supply of hay? For his role of a scapegoat?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He started the group chat, it’s not really that far fetched?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

That's probably why was chosen as a scapegoat in the first place. But the primary failure was the use of Signal as a tool, and it remains to be seen whose fault that was.

And calling a grave, mindless oversight that could have cost the lives of soldiers a "glitch" like Trump did shows his disregard to the people protecting his country, and, by extension, his own sorry ass.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No no no, Hegseth said he didn't do it

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Definitely some of The Narcissist's Prayer going on:

That didn't happen. (Hegseth lead with this yesterday calling the journalist a liar)

And if it did, it wasn't that bad. (Trump was here last night saying it was a small glitch)

And if it was, that's not a big deal. (Now they're saying "whoopsie" about adding the journalist but not addressing the use of Signal at all)

And if it is, that's not my fault. (stay tuned)

And if it was, I didn't mean it.

And if I did, you deserved it.

Shares a name with the codename of a Russian asset, that's all, innocent stuff.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sorry, I'm OOTL. Which asset is that?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Just a joke about the Trump administration being immensely compromised by Russian intelligence, not thinking of any person in particular.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh, gotcha. I thought I was missing some juicy details. Thanks!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Well, apparently some of them were in Moscow at the time

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

But your comment sounded like you had something specific in mind. It doesn't really work as a generic joke

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I'm sure we'll find out which other Jeffrey in his contacts was actually supposed to be in the chat.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

To quote a comment I saw on lemmy "epstein. They add him to every group chat as remembrance."

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

Conspiracy Theory: use it as an excuse to charge the reporter under the espionage act to chill free speech of the press.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah, political responsibility, which means no responsibility at all.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

Lock him up

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

My guess? Vance added him so he could look like the adult in a room full of morons.
