I'm honestly asking myself how these re-releases will sell and how this will work long term on the Switch 2.

For the release day we already have Elden Ring (60GB on Steam) and Cyberpunk+Add on (100+GB). Now this FF (100GB) - that's more than the internal storage of the Switch 2. Unless the developers will be able to shed a ton of space, this is not sustainable.

And since, for some reason, Nintendo's Semi-proprietary SD-cards only come in 256GB, this will not be a solution either. How many SD-cards will you have to buy over the years?

I think, since a lot japanese people own a switch, but not pc or playstation console. Such people would be the target audience of that. Not everyone has multiple consoles or systems, some only one from nintendo.

I guess you have the game sizes from steam, playstation's game versions are smaller. I would imagine the nintendo version is even smaller. Cyberpunkt is inside a 64GB Cardrige, so for sure smaller than 100GB. And the SD-card are noch proprietary, they just the fastest one currently on the market that got support, every express sd card should work. They will be cheaper and bigger with time as well.

I don't think that's how people buy games. Even on PS5, I can't install 6-7 AAA games at once (well, depends on the game, some are pretty small) and regularly run out of space.

And that's the good thing about Nintendo's cartridge, you can run directly from there, and don't have to copy the data to console. Though that will only be true for games that have any data on the cartridge and not just the download code.

It will work as everything as worked before: you will need to have and external card to have proper space, nothing new.

If all the Xenoblades and most of the big 3rd party switch 1 games can be <16GB, they can make this work. 32GB games (just guessing here) on a 256GB storage wouldn't be bad. Most indies will still be 0-8GB.

Cyberpunk will be available fully on cartridge (English, Other languages will need a download), 64GB.

Impressive that CDPR was able to shed that much space.

Still, I think that storage space will be an issue - 64GB is still effectively a fourth of the consoles memory space. And with the trend of digital downloads over physical games, the buck is gonna stop somewhere.

Wow, such innovation. This must be those $90 games I keep hearing about. Is this just a remake, or is this a remake of the remake? Perhaps it's the remastered remake of the remake. I can't even tell but they should raise the price to at least $160 for all the work they did to this...almost 30 year old game.

The remake is split into an episodic trilogy.

FF7 Remake - Part 1
FF7 Remake Intergrade - Updated rerelease for PS5, featuring an additional bonus chapter
FF7 Rebirth - Part 2
Part 3 is still in development.

Say what you will about the direction they've taken the remake, but they most certainly did put work into making something very different from the 1997 original.

Why not just make a new game then?

That's said, anytime I get into a topic of FF style games I must refer people to a new title that's in the works. This is literally the visuals I've wanted from Enix since they basically abandoned sprites in favor 3d graphics.

Highly recommended everyone checkout EthrA

They are making new games too. Square Enix is a large publisher with a lot of different projects in their pipeline. Including their HD-2D team that's still doing sprites.

Why not just make a new game then?

I mean, it's not like Square Enix isn't also making newer games, too. Rebirth and FF16 game out within a few months of each other, after they released a small pile of other more traditional JRPGs (even with sprites!)

I won’t be buying switch 2 because of the insane new game pricing, but can we stop parroting the $90 price tag as if that’s true? It is only the case with Mario Kart World Physical edition (I think only confirmed for EU too).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I won't, only because I have yet to see companies not constantly increase prices, decrease quality, push talks/articles about their high prices to normalize it, produce less to force fake scarcity to further increase costs..they don't care one iota, why should I?

I'm done pandering to companies and essentially treating them like they treat us (which is like shit). Companies this day and age, do not deserve to be given blind faith anymore. They shouldn't be trusted, the worst should be assume until THEY PROVE otherwise.

If you want to be upset about $80 Mario Kart, I'm not going to tell you not to be upset. But I am going to tell you not to lie and spread misinformation.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

The only case yet. I'd be very surprised if the next Zelda isn't gonna be $90 as well. Doug Bowser said himself that prices are gonna vary depending on how much Nintendo thinks ~~people will begrudgingly pay for them~~ they're worth, factoring in production cost, play time etc.

Let's be real: $90 is gonna be the new price for Nintendo's flagship titles.

Have you seen a single screenshot of FF7 PS1? lmao
