BigMacHole at it again

Yeah it sounds like she isn't a citizen. That sucks but does anyone in the US expect to be able to live in another country for decades without a visa or citizenship? I'm not for draconian immigration policies and randomly deporting people but if you aren't a citizen and you aren't allowed to stay then this is what happens. You know like everywhere else in the world.

She was brought here as a child. She doesn’t know any other home. The right thing to do would be to let her stay and help her get legal citizenship.

Man, a bunch of people showed up here and killed the people who lived here, planted a flag and said it was theirs. Nobody here except the Native Americans are truly Americans if you want to play that stupid game. So by that logic, we should all gtfo except for them.

First Nations were the best nations

Hahahahah. Your enumeration of my logic reflects more on you.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago

So, when it comes down to it, all you could come up with was (checks notes), "No, U!" Very philosophy and much wise over here.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're the one here telling people that have lived in this country their entire lives to get out, not me. So, you tell me who's the asshole.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The amount of "but that's not fair" on Lemmy is hilarious. Have none of you people been out in the world? I hate to burst your little digital bubble. The world isn't fair and all I'm doing is being surprised by something every other country in the world does. Shrug.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I can both hold the opinions that "life isn't fair" and also that "we should try to make it more fair" at the same time without contradiction. Do you not hold both of these opinions? If so, why not?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Also, life isn't fair isn't a permanent status. It's a state, and states can be changed. Just because life isn't fair doesn't mean it couldn't be. As you pointed out, why not take actions that make it fairer? Is the logic, no one helped me and therefore no one should help anyone? That's just dumb.

Your enumeration of my logic

Who fucking talks like this? 😭

[–] [email protected] 43 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Yes. Why not? Countries are made up, and people are real.

I’m not surprised you have this opinion, though! Humans are animals, and most of them have no capacity for moral deliberation. They build things like airplanes, but don’t know why. They enjoy art, but don’t know how. They feel, but can’t begin to analyze (let alone understand) their own dumb emotions.

Most humans are a cosmic joke (or maybe a horror) meant to keep the rest of us humble. And you’re a prime example of that.

I love how you meantion ur not draconian and then proceed to be draconian

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Draconian != anyone can stay in a country even if they don't have the legal right? That's just standard in the world unless I missed something. Go and try staying with years in the UK. What do you think they'll do when you pop up on their radar? Give you citizenship?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 months ago

It seems that you may not understand the definition of Draconian. It means cruel or severe, and that's exactly what this would be. She's been in the US since she was a toddler so not her choice. She knows no other home. Where exactly should she be sent? How would you personally deal with being extradited to some country that you've never set foot in or for all we know don't speak its language? Sounds very severe and cruel to me. No one is saying anyone can stay in a country.

You should learn to read.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

what proof do you have that she was here illegally?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Read the article. It is in the first half.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

again: what proof do YOU have? hint: you have none and it’s not in the first half. hint two: she’s innocent until proven guilty. something ICE terrorists have chosen to not do.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

TBH, I missed where in the article it said she was here illegally. It's implied, but not explicitly stated.

Like, I'm not eligible for DACA. I couldn't produce an international driver's license. Neither of those mean I'm here illegally.

Sure, the government is in the process of deporting her. They've also deported US citizens.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

deportation comes after due process. detainment is inappropriate unless she’s been charged with a crime; reminder: she was not arrested but detained.

and ICE has a documented history of getting it wrong and not giving a fuck. ICE is a terrorist organization.

God I just wish all of you scumbags would disappear.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

They seem to love extradition, so maybe that's the answer for how to handle them.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Another hot take from .ml.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Blocked the instance, I’ve been forgetting to get on that.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Yes, because the expectation is that if you keep your head low you will be tolerated. And this has been tolerated from both parties for many years after they are removed the legal visa for seasonal workers. Many people want cheap labour, and this is the way the government has been providing it. And yes in other countries this structure also probably takes places and in other countries they've made a more legal path to get this labour for their country. It is not as black and white.
