News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

MODERATORS

I made a post previously about this issue but I wanted to do an update of sorts and see if there is anything new I can do.

Basically about a month ago I got banned off the platform. I do not know why, and they never gave me a reason, no matter how many times I contacted Reddit support, and all appeals were rejected. I can only assume that someone in my apartment got banned and it picked me up too since we share an IP or something. I have since made a few dozen accounts in attempt to dodge this ban and nothing works.

I have gone as far as booting up an old laptop which I haven't used in 3 years, downloading a virtual machine and running Xubuntu through it, connecting to a VPN on both the laptop and the virtual machine, opening up Reddit in Firefox's incognito mode, making a new account through a Tempmail email, and waiting 2 days before commenting on a post to make sure I didn't get flagged as a bot.

Lo and behold, the second I posted that comment, my avatar in the top right disappeared, the page kept telling me I had a server error, and when I looked at my account in another browser, at had told me it had been suspended.

Quite honestly I can't think of a single other thing I could do. Even after all of those steps taken, Reddit was instantaneously able to track me right back to my other accounts. Is there literally anything I can possibly do to ever post on this platform again?

The besr time to leave Reddit was 2023, the second best time is now.

I'm trying to get banned, but only subs so far

Have you tried giving a reasonable counter point to a fascist promoter? That should work nicely

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I did. You can see my profile, same username. I even mentioned luigi'ing shitty people. And everyone on the Epstein list should die in a fire.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Lmao I feel like not getting a permaban while doing all that is possibly more impressive.

Are we all going to club penguin Reddit?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 days ago

I guess you can't use Reddit anymore. Oh well. You'll be fine.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 days ago

Sorry this happened to you. The Reddit we loved is evidently being intentionally reduced to yet another reactionary / fascist echo chamber, like Xitter.

I don’t know if Reddit’s board are just enthusiastic regime toadies, or if the regime has leverage over CEO u/spez Huffman in connection with his tenure as r/Jailbait mod. Either way, it’s not going back, so fediverse is the way forward.

Reddit bans people for using a VPN, so you might have been banned for that and not tracked back to your original account. Get a residential VPN/Proxy, they are usually a bit pricier than the normal ones, or just go to a friend's house and use their IP to register.

Not that it will help in the long run. Their AI is running rampant. If it doesn't ban you for this, it will ban you for that, or for a myriad of other "reasons".

So would it be a better strategy to keep going with the old laptop and virtual machine, but like unplug my router and force my IP to change instead of a VPN? Also, if I make my account at a different location, but return home and sign onto it from there, will Reddit still pick that up? Because if that's the case, will just every account that ever enters my home be instantly banned?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Get a new IP that's unrelated to your home and unrelated to a non-residential VPN service, and purge your browser's data. Keeping the old laptop should be fine, I think.

No idea, but that wouldn't surprise me.

"this guy is trying too hard, must be a banned user"

Try to find some Lan House (there should still be a couple of them around) and make an account from there.

Like a Café with computers you can use. Some countries also have computers available in libraries.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

A place where you can rent a PC. Any regular internet cafe or a public library should work too.

It is probably more your OS fingerprint. Use a useragent switcher and see if that helps.

At some point though you have to wonder if that is even worth it. Best of luck!

They ran a VM

Do you live in the European Union? If so, you should have access to an effective internal complaints system and the ability to appeal to an independent arbitrator.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

No I'm in the US. I've sent in an email to Reddit support asking why my original account got banned. Is there anything perhaps in the US similar to what you mentioned that could help even get me unbanned?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Oh I’m from the US too. I was banned for supposedly inciting violence. Absolute horseshit.

For mobile:

Use a VPN (different from the one if currently using)

Get a new phone

Switch from Google to Apple or vice versa (all accounts)

Write and post in a different writing style

Visit very few of the same subs from previous accounts

Get a new ISP

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Most Americans don’t get to choose their ISP.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

It's hit or miss based on location

I'm surprised that nowadays we have a choice of several in our small-ish midwestern town

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Ok so in other words it would cost hundreds or thousands of dollars

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Yes. Spend money and stop interacting with reddit like yourself, forever.

...or, just let it go and move on with your life

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

To confirm, you are using a VPN and on top of a VPN you are using tor? if you are not using Tor, then yeah use that in combination with a vpn. Try Tor.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I tried Tor once however I did not use a VPN on top of it, would this combination work a lot better?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

It should offer extra protection. If they can still block you by ip you might need a completely new device. and possibly even a new network. If not even Tor and VPN combined does not work.
