“If you have one group of people who feels very comfortable that their citizenship is secure, they will feel much more comfortable being politically active,” she said. “And if you have another group of people who worries that if their political activity gets on the wrong side of somebody in power, that their lives and livelihoods might be vulnerable — that is a lesser citizenship. That is a reason why people might step back from political participation.”

And there it is, reduce resistance little by little, then eliminate everyone.

Second amendment looking like the only alternative.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago (14 children)

Too late, the opposition (my fellow Democrats) made sure most of us aren’t armed.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"Most of us aren't armed"? Homie US citizens own 120 guns per 100 people. The fucking answer to absolutely every problem here, left or right, has been to arm themselves. We have literally never had more left-wing people carrying pistols.

Like Jesus Christ, someone got shot and killed at the 'No Kings' rally in Idaho, and all three parties involved were left-wing. I am not sure what planet you're on, but it ain't Earth.

The neoliberal controlled opposition is disarmed, because you don’t need personal arms when you have cops and your goal is preserving the power of the state and the capitalist boot.

The actual opposition (who have been disenfranchised by your fellow Democrats), were never so naive and are armed just fine. Just disorganized and excluded from the political machinery.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Sounds like a personal problem.

Well... if you look a the history of the US you COULD argue that most of its inhabitants are offspring of illegal immigrants, sooo....

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 days ago (11 children)

I can't get over just how short sighted MAGA is... They give the president this power like it will never be used against them by the next Democrat president.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 days ago (3 children)

You think the democrats would actually do that? They’d make a big deal about how they won’t do that, because they are cowards. The only spine they ever grow is when their corporate owners tell them to. Other than that, they care about nothing but maintaining the status quo.

Funny thing is. Republicans allow their red-ass state legislatures to gerrymander their districts, while democrats act so high and nobel implementing their "non-partisan" commissions to "draw fair districts".

The house is forever skewed in favor of the right wing unless democrats play dirty and also gerrymander the shit out of those seats.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

They tried in New York the last time the maps were redrawn. If Dems really wanted to gerrymander New York, they could likely win every single district.

The courts shot that one down, and now New York is just heavily favored to Dems. The House would be majority Dems right now if not for that alone.

They even made us memorize this one in grade school:

  1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Note that this says nothing about having to be a citizen for this to apply to you, either. And while we're at it, see also this.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well you see, congress isn't making a law, the executive branch is just doing blatantly illegal shit with impunity, because congress is full of spineless coward sellouts

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

They are just imagining they will wield that power someday so they don't want to rock the boat.

They are all temporarily embarrassed ruling party. Otherwise they would want to remove or restrict these powers. This did not happen overnight either.

We have known for several decades now the extreme problems with executive overreach. The President should be a figured head only and Congress should increase in size and do its job.

This is blatant corruption and a dereliction of their duty. It really is disgusting to see how little regard these jokers have for their positions. Electing a literal carnival barker and giving his team of racist rejects the keys to the country is mind bogglingly stupid.

Those who gain citizenship through unlawful means and endanger our national security will not maintain the benefits of being an American citizen

Lmao... Benefits? What exactly are those benefits? Not being on the receiving end of a bombing? Not having our country destabilized by a narcissist (we don't even get that benefit anymore). Having healthcare taken away? A secret police force take you away for wrongthink? Lol benefits of being an American....

[–] [email protected] 36 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bruh what do you mean the best American benefit is living in a 3rd world country while giving your taxes to hardworking billionaires who use it to control you and blowing up brown kids in the Middle East

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Very true! I'm so ungrateful! :(

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

Have you even said thank you?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Only country in the world to tax based on citizenship instead of residency... Being forced to declare taxes as an expat is a hassle. What are these benefits they speak of??? I'd gladly give mine up if it wasn't such a hassle and so expensive to do so.

But I thought they were only going after people in the country illegally, I thought they were okay with immigration as long as they followed legal processes (sarcasm)

[–] [email protected] 41 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, you guys had a good run being a semi normal country. Now you're fucked.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

semi normal

Extremely generous thank you for that.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No worries mate, you had a good run, all things come to an end and all that!. On a serious note I do empathise a bit for the normals among you. But as a recipient of some foreign policy freedom in the 80s by the USS new Jersey on Beirut, I wish I could be selective in whose face the leopards eat under this administration. Unfortunately I can't.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

You can advocate for allowing refugees against the regime.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 days ago

Traitors, all of them.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This administration is traitorous and needs to be removed immediately. They are enemies of the American people and the American States themselves.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It’s not just the administration. Every republican, and many democrats in congress anre also supporting this.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So like anyone not in the party will be excluded from society?

I have three nationalities. Born in Argentina and was naturalized at 8 yrs old in the USA when my parents moved. Been living in Canada since 2000 and also a citizen. I am legally bound to declare taxes in the US, even if I never made a penny working there. Revoking citizenship is expensive and requires a lot of paperwork. Fuck you MAGA, fuck you Trump. Take my citizenship away, I'll gladly give it back. I'll save thousands per year not having to deal with your backwards ass-shit citizenship based tax laws.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

For most US citizens, losing citizenship means being stateless. Nobody will advocate for us when we're in CECOT
