Stop blaming each other. The ones we should be blaming are the mega wealthy.

No war but class war

[–] [email protected] 19 points 5 days ago

Exactly, all the major social conflicts are fueled by a few very powerful people to distract us from going after them.

"Bill Burr blurts 'Blame Billionaires!'"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago

Nice alliteration.

[–] [email protected] 93 points 6 days ago (7 children)

Bill Burr is great and I don't think I've ever met a guy who didn't like him. Good politics too, and says them like a normal fucking person who can make a case without being annoying.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Some of the weirdo ass lemmy computer janitors in this thread seem to dislike him. Which means he’s probably on the right side.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The rest of this thread is bonkers. I have no idea what's happening

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

unhinged people can't tolerate non-idealistic perspectives. Bill isn't a idealist, he's a pragmatic realist kind of guy.

idealists tend to believe that any reference to a reality outside of their ideal utopia in their heads is a form of hate-speech against them.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 days ago

Now I know what's happening

Bill Burr has been saying a lot of 'woke' things lately, and I'm here for it.

[–] [email protected] 62 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Bill is a class act. One of the best living comedians.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I enjoy his talk show appearances, but his stand up is needlessly aggressive.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 5 days ago

He's from the Boston area. We are all needlessly aggressive.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Did you see the clips of him roasting the Philadelphia crowd for booing the openers for whatever show that was?

Sometimes a little aggression works.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 5 days ago

"Your greatest hero [Rocky] is a fictional character!"

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 days ago

I haven't seen them, but I certainly agree aggression can be funny, when used appropriately.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 5 days ago (7 children)

His most recent one was making fun of that very fact about himself. I think its safe to say hes aware.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 5 days ago

It's been great to see him explore why he's been that way. We need more men his age publicly discussing working through their trauma.

Some idiots on the right think bill bur is in the middle, how many times does he have to say fuck trump for those morons to understand. He deff not a establishment dem but he is deff a progressive

[–] [email protected] 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think they say that because he portrays himself angrily, and people on the right can really relate to that.

"She went on ESPN and said 'I don't understand why female athletes don't make as much as male athletes' and all these men had to sit there pretending to be dumbfounded. I'm sitting at home screaming at the TV 'BECAUSE YOU DON'T SELL ANY FUCKING TICKETS!'"

--Bill Burr.

Not exactly a bastion of blue haired "My pronouns are emdash/interrobang" leftism, is he?

Reminds me a bit of George Carlin, especially in his later years. George Carlin once did a bit about groups of people he would like to see killed in various ways, to include gun enthusiasts, helicopter parents and people who made small purchases on a credit card.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You excluded the rest where he said if woman really wanted to support them they should watch their games.

Which is a good point. And a lot of comedy is delivery which is lost in text.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Yeah, it boils down to criticizing feminists for being hypocritical, which would not be tolerated of a member of The Left^(TM)^.

He'll also poke The Right^(TM)^ as much; all he's got to do to get people thrown out of a venue in Texas is say "I love vaccines, man."

The dude isn't on either side, he's the kind of comedian who makes fun of abject bullshit, and abject bullshit is Not. Scarce. in 21st century America.

In terms of right and left he's pretty much the center. American "centrists" are actually right wingers in other countries. Heck, even the Dems who consider themselves leftists are actually on the right.

As someone who listens to his podcast regularly, he's a borderline socialist at this point, but he has blinders on when it comes to "both sides" bullshit.

It's probably because he doesn't want to alienate half of his audience, which I get. But it's super frustrating to hear because he's right there.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

not all anti-trump people are progressive. plenty of center and right-leaning folks say fuck trump. not enough, but plenty.

also it’s not even progressive to say “don’t blame immigrants”. that’s just basic humanity and not letting republican fear mongering drive you rabid.

He might appear to be in the middle, because he also goes after Democrats. And while they might not be nearly as bad as the party of American fascists, Democrats are very far from being perfect. They have at most a handful of decent high profile people. Bill Burr is just reasonable and calls out assholes, no matter their affiliation.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 days ago (3 children)

If they ask Bill, which the media does, he'll tell you, "Why the fuck are you asking me?" He knows his political views are and should be meaningless. He's a comedian. The news media is responsible for the mess we're in, stop asking comedians what they think and stop white washing fascism.

Bill is a real American. I like that he's so anti-racist.

I keep hearing about the search for a liberal Rogan. But that person existed for a long time, we are just to busy talking about Rogan to see it.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 days ago

I’ve listened to Bill for decades. He’s a good guy to get advice from. He’s also a fucking but bag sometimes. But who isn’t a little nuts.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I blame billionaires for supporting the mass import of immigrants to line their own pockets at everyone's expense.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (61 children)

it’s not at our expense. illegal immigrants do the jobs we don’t want to do anyway, and they contribute more to the economy than they take from it. (edit: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6])

blame the billionaires for using 24 hour news and social media to misdirect people’s anger with bigotry and fear mongering.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 days ago

they contribute more to the economy than they take from it

They even help prop up Social Security, since they pay into it but can't ever collect on it.
