Wonder why that tank was left there. Was it lost in an exercise, was it intended to be used as for erosion prevention, was it target practice?
I think I have the answer, target practice:
In 1939, the began to use the Culebra Archipelago as a gunnery and bombing practice site. This was done in preparation for the United States' involvement in WWII.
Looks like a shell punched right through the frontal armor.
Nope, that's where the machine gun ball would be since this is a Sherman. It was probably stolen eventually. The tank probably got bogged down and abandoned where it stood.
I like to think that the operators got to the water and abandoned the tank in favor of some much needed beach time.
