I hate them, but what's the point in stopping using them for this reason? Govts will ask whatever provider for data they want...

Need an account to read the full article. Anyone have access? I was wondering if this is a privacy concern or if they mean general data? And why the government would need it?

They did the original reporting AFAICT, I seem to recall the whole article being free, but I understand they’re now paywalling :-(
