Yes, but make sure to make eye contact with the driver first. Because, in the end, don't we all want to be remembered?

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Apparently that is one of the worst parts of being a train driver. Seeing what's about to happen, but knowing you can't stop in time. Looking into someone's eyes, just before they are reduced to a meat crayon.

[–] underwire212@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How often does it actually happen?

[–] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

I've heard that is basically guaranteed you will kill someone eventually if you are a lifelong train driver.

[–] Gigan@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, I'm just happy there's trolley's again.

[–] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Could a walkable neighborhood and transit-oriented development be next?

[–] SlopppyEngineer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

On a large enough time scale and on the tail end of peak oil this is basically guaranteed.

[–] dumpsterlid@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

I mean, if it didn’t just kill me but erased me from existence so I wouldn’t cause a massive amount of trauma to the people around me, then yes absolutely!

If it just killed me then nopeeee

doing so would disrupt the trolley service causing the company to lose profits, so here’s the reverse ask: why wouldn’t you do this?

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You don't want DB to have any more delays though so only do it if it's a cargo train.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Call of the void, is that you?

Alternatively:

trolley problem: you and Albert Camus are standing by the railway. nobody is in any danger. do you let Albert Camus jump in front of the moving trolley?

It depends, do I have snacks?

[–] cloudless@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Well, this happens a lot in China. For insurance scam.

Russia too. Lots of dash cam vids on YouTube. I got one for myself just in case (US)

[–] Iron_Lynx@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

ME: no

MY DARK THOUGHTS: yes

ME: wtf‽‽

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

That depends, will doing so inconvenience other people? And is there someone to look after my cat?

[–] rimjob_rainer@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What trolley, there are only cars

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You obviously have not been to San Francisco

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

These trolley moral dilemma hypothetical scenarios are becoming increasingly complex.

That depends: are we in a country that lacks any kind of decent access to medical care, so that by not jumping we are causing a worse death than by jumping?

[–] Pyro@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Now we are getting to the real questions
