I think it just comes down to different people using their IDEs different. I almost don't use the dash and always just hit super key and then search or super and then open one of the few things in my dash. And I really like that gnome gets out of my way in tge "default" / "desktop" mode
The dash is only visible in the overview, so this state absolutly make sense. You can immediatly search or click on the dash
It depends on what you are interested in. For me it is a mix of stuff that I need or stuff that just interests me. I'm on and off working on a gameboy emulator, or I've written a command line parser library because I wanted so see how it works internally, or a terminal emulator
But the servers and the organizations have to be in some country. Any country will probably have some weird laws regarding some topic and the beauty of the fediverse is, that you can always create a community on a different instance or even create your own instance
