In FFXI, at around level 20, you have to walk from your starter city to the main capital city, Jueno. It takes a couple of hours your first time, because all of the monsters are level 40+, and you have almost no chance of surviving an encounter,. You have to cross several very large maps in the process, usually alone or with a friend at around a similar level, and there is a lot of sneaking around you have to do in order to avoid detection. I always liked this part of the game because of the challenge it presented. When you arrive in Jueno, you finally get your chocobo license and never have to walk across those maps again, unless you really wanted to.

The updated version of the game doesn't require traveling like this anymore. I think you can just take an airship or teleport there somehow now, but I still take the long way for nostalgia whenever creating a new character.

+1 for Spectaled Owl

When you feel things more intensely than others, and something as simple as too much background noise or bright light is enough to cause sensory overload, I think the chances of "beating" it become nonexistent. It's exhausting just trying to appear normal even when everything seems fine.

Congrats on turning things around! It sounds like you're putting a lot of effort into this, he must be a really great guy.

Yeah, in most places. Welcome aboard :)

You probably don't have to toss it. I'd try sterilization first, and if it happens again, you'll know that the soil can't be reused. You can sterilize it by baking it in the oven at 180°F for 30 minutes or leaving it in a clear plastic bag in the sun for a few weeks.

You'd be luck to have a home to go back today in this society

No plans this year. I'll probably go to bed early that day to get it over with.

It seems scary at first, but if you just let go of the things you learned with Windows, you'll see it's a lot better. It just takes some getting used to, and it can be frustrating at first if you don't fully understand. You may be tempted to find an alternative, but this is not always the way. Just accepting that it's different is a good first step

Hell yeah. Play what you love, who's stopping you?

I keep saying this guy is an idiot for a reason

Yeah, I didn't really think it through. It sounds like a painful decision

Hello everyone!

I'm trying to see if there’s enough interest in hosting an AMA with Linus Torvalds, the renowned creator of Linux and Git. Linus has shaped much of what modern computing looks like today, and his insights could greatly benefit all of us here.

Five Questions We’d Love to Ask:

  1. What are the biggest challenges you faced in the early days of developing Linux?
  2. How do you see the role of open-source software evolving in the next decade?
  3. Can you share any advice for young programmers who aspire to contribute to major projects like Linux?
  4. What motivated you to create Git, and did you anticipate its widespread adoption?
  5. How do you manage work-life balance given the demands of your projects?

Why Linus Torvalds?

Linus isn’t just a programmer; he’s a pioneer who has significantly impacted the tech industry. An AMA with him could provide us with invaluable insights into the philosophy behind open-source software and managing massive collaborative projects.

If you're as excited about this possibility as I am, please upvote and comment with any additional questions or suggestions. Let’s make this happen!
