Aren't Americans responsible for their own retirement fund via various investment portfolios? Seeing your retirement money or college fund for your kids disappearing is bound to ruffle some feathers.

Yes, I'm sure reopening coal plants and displacing villages to mine coal is a better environmental policy.

And are you suggesting that the West wouldn't be able to build cheaper and faster nuclear power plants even if we had actually invested in the technology for all these years? Is nuclear technology some unicorn that can't be improved with experience and research?

Building times are to be measured in decades.

Should probably have invested more into developing their knowledge and experience then. Just have a look at China.

Littering vast spaces of land for wind and sun power generation is hardly a better long term solution.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Schindler's List.

The 7 day week is a social construct, following a 7 day micro cycle is something people do out of convenience, and for no other reason. It's perfectly fine to have a program that doesn't follow that structure. Personally I got "6 days out of 8" structure, as I take a rest day after deadlift day and after one of the leg days in an upper lower program (ULUURULR).

What matters is the your muscles get enough rest time before the next session targeting them again. It's neat to categorise programs by simple splits, but they are just that, categories. Don't feel locked you by following them strictly.

Am I giving this too much thought?

Yeah, probably

The reason I am asking this is because I heard PPL is useless if you only go 3 times a week.

That's nothing but Internet hyperbole. 3 times a week is plenty as long as you aren't aiming at being the next Mr. Olympia.

If you're just starting out, you'll likely benefit from using a pre-made program rather designing one yourself though.

  • modlog
  • admin tools
  • the instance side bar is still missing
  • formatting of markdown like spoiler tag
  • a way to view the bottom bar where often the "legal" url for site policies are
  • a page to view registration applications
  • a way to switch between accounts while staying on the same post/while commenting. The reddit version had this feature
  • a way to configure what language you are commenting/posting with

I appreciate the gesture though, I'm sure someone will read it and find it helpful

My life is too busy to play games all that often, and I still have a backlog of games I could go through. Ignoring the ethical question of pirating, I'm not sure the risk of running unverified executables are worth the risk for most people.

As interesting as the game looks, the 315$ price tag for all the DLC made me lose interest.

It's not that I have anything against that sort of games, Total War Warhammer sits at a similar price tag and I got all of the DLCs until CA dropped the ball with TWW3, but it's a real turn off as I'm not interested in doing the homework of finding out which DLCs are needed and which are not.

The hen can't be alone with the fox or the grain, so it's still the same.

Erlang/Elixir doesn't have muteable variables/types. Appending to a list would just create a "new" lists.

Maybe I'm blind, but I can't see it? The target audience is PC gamers, and even though I rarely browse gaming websites anymore, this type of snark seems to be fairly standard for the last 10+ years.

Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time, but it's looked pretty much the same for the entirety of its almost 14 year run. There's an argument to be made that it's showing its age in places, an argument I won't make because I don't think so myself, but all the same, as revealed during today's Minecraft Live, Mojang announced that the sandbox game is getting a pretty big visual overhaul update called Vibrant Visuals. Now, don't worry, it'll still be all blocks and squares 'n' that, but it will be changing up how lighting looks.

A blog post explains things in a bit more detail, with one of the big things being that there'll now be volumetric lighting. What that translates to is things like sunlight shining more naturally across different surfaces, even shining through windows, and every individual block will cast its own shadow. Mobs and items will glow a bit more too, so it's not just about the overworld lighting.

This update is coming to the Bedrock Edition of the game first, with the post noting that it hopes to bring this "graphics revamp (either fully or partially) to as many devices as possible", though there's not even a release window for it yet. There are plans to bring it to Java Edition too.

I might not have much of a horse in this race as someone that only really plays Minecraft once in a blue moon (and normally swiftly puts it down because I'm not that kind of creative and I get too stressed out from survival mode), but honestly, I'm not a fan. Minecraft is inherently not a natural looking game, and this lighting overhaul just adds a touch to much realism for my tastes. Besides, this kind of lighting already exists in countless mods, so for plenty of people it's not even really needed.

In any case, there were a few other announcements from Minecraft Live too, like the fact you'll soon be able to fly around on friendly versions of ghasts, which I do quite like the look of. There's a live event taking place from March 25 to April 7 too where you get to hang out with Jack Black's version of Steve to defend a village in some mini-games, which'll net you a cape if you're successful. Bit less exciting, but to each their own!

LiveThreadBot is now live (programming.dev)
submitted 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Update: To add or remove women's game's, you now need to add -w to the command. E.g. -football -w Barcelona - Liverpool or -remove -football -w Barcelona - Liverpool This is due to edge cases where men's and women's team share name and play against the same opponent on the same day. Women's match thread will also be marked with [Women's game] in the title.

As some of you may have seen, the community now has a match thread bot to help with automating creation and updating match threads.

The bot takes a request in the format -football [email protected] Barcelona - Real Madrid and will look up to 6 days ahead for an upcoming match and add it to a queue. ~15 minutes before kick off it will make a post that it will continuously update with available score, stats and commentary.

To make a request you can either tag the bot or reply to one of the bot's comments. See the comments for an interaction example.

The bot will work in any community federated with lemmy.world so if you want to create a live thread in e.g. c/gunners you could make a request like this -football [email protected] Arsenal - Tottenham Hotspur

Do note that the bot requires approval from a mod or admin to post in a community. So unless you're a mod/admin, you'll need to ask them to approve the bot via -mod_action whitelist [email protected] or become a trusted user that can bypass the block -mod_action trust [email protected] [email protected]

For a more detailed and technical overview of the bot's capabilities, please check the readme in the gitlab repo: https://gitlab.com/UlrikHD/lemmy-match-thread-bot

Latest version of Boost on Android 11. When opening up DMs (not replying) the notification for unread messages stays unchanged and the messages aren't marked as read.

Can other people reproduce this issue?

I've been thinking about writing my own workout logger that better fits my use and I'd like to hear some recommendations on what language or framework to use.

I don't have any prior experience with mobile development nor with Java or Kotlin, and C++ I suspect would be needlessly low level for the features I'd like to include.

Features is like to include in the app is capability of recording video, playing video/audio, creating graphs and opening up in-app tabs. Fancy ui and animations is not of much importance.

Any recommendations on what languages to use and what libraries might be of interest to get going?

Not sure what causes it, but about 7% of the times I try to comment on a post, the app will crash and restart, failing to post the comment. Unless the comment was manually saved, the comment will also be completely gone, forcing you to rewrite the whole comment.

It seems to happen mostly on longer comments when the app have spent some time in the "comment" state. It's possible that leaving the app (not closing it) and reopen the window is part of what triggers the bug.

Android version 9, the bug has been persistent through multiple versions of the app, including the latest version available at the play store.
