Bernie Sanders is 83. He won't be running in the Presidential primaries.

Let's face it. We have been talking about technology eliminating the drudge work of society for decades. We used technology to automate so many tedious but not necessarily body destroying jobs. Farm work is body destroying and should be automated as much as is technologically feasible.

From the CDC:

  • Deaths

    • In 2022, workers in the agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting industry had one of the highest fatal injury rates (18.6 deaths per 100,000 full-time equivalents), compared to 3.7 deaths per 100,000 FTE for all U.S. industries.
    • Transportation incidents were the leading cause of death for these farmers and farm workers. Other leading causes were violence by other persons or animals and contact with objects and equipment.
    • In 2022, over half (56%) of deaths in the agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting industry occurred to workers 55 years of age and older.

Yeah. I wrote that in a pique of anger but I will let it stay. There need to be some major changes.

The funny thing is, when I first started working retail, we were encouraged to just say, "Oh, did you forget to complete your purchase?" We weren't allowed to go straight to accusing someone of stealing. That gave them the opportunity to either pay for the items or leave them behind.

I distinctly remember learning about tariffs in Social Studies. That was back in elementary / middle school. I understood it then and so did my classmates.

From The Lancet:

The MMR vaccine is highly effective with 93% protection after one dose and 97% after a second. MMR is a live attenuated vaccine and is not recommended for pregnant people, very young children, and immunocompromised individuals, and thus, these groups are at particular risk. Measles causes pneumonia in 1 of 20 cases, encephalitis in 0·5–1 per 1000, and is fatal in 1–3 per 1000. By contrast, adverse events after vaccination are usually mild and self-limiting; 1 per 3000–4000 vaccinated children develop febrile seizures, 1 in 40 000 develop immune thrombocytopenic purpura, and three cases of inclusion body encephalitis have been reported after vaccination. Overall, the rate of serious adverse events after vaccination is substantially lower than after infection. Furthermore, measles infection leads to broad immune amnesia—that is, diminished immune responses to other pathogens. The virus can directly infect memory B and T cells, and studies in children 2 months after measles infection have found that 11–73% of the preexisting antibody repertoire vanished.

If we survive, the Constitution is going to need a major overhaul. The judiciary and the legislative branches need to have their own enforcement arms.

Meet Seamus.

I don't understand what is in those Hartz (I know) Delectables Bisque treats that make my cat crazy. At first I thought it might be the tuna, but I tried just the chicken recipe and he still scarfs them down. They are just so expensive. I tried pureeing a can of Fancy Feast Kitten Ocean Whitefish pate because I have about 15 cans left over from his tiny kitten days. Turned his nose up at it. I even warmed it in the microwave for a few seconds. All the package says is water, chicken, natural flavor, tapioca starch, guar gum, annatto extract color, carmine color. Obviously, the tuna ones have tuna instead of chicken. What could possibly be in there? Anyone have success with some other substitute? I know there are other brands but those are even more expensive. Thanks.

Everything just seems so out of control. The US seems to be tearing itself apart. The world is on fire. We seem to be going backwards when it comes to freedom and human rights. We've turned our backs on each other. How do you cope with all this without just giving up?

So, I just got my tax bill yesterday. It is just for my car as I don't own anything else. It isn't outrageous but I can't imagine what it must be like for other people in the state. Whatever happened to the push to eliminate car taxes?
