For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.
No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.
Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.
Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

I wonder why the richest man in the world says he's about free speech. He lives in a country that considers money to be speech. He has the most speech of anyone, but that's not it surely.
He says he's about free speech because he agreed with the kinds of speech that get excluded from civil discussion. He considered people getting shunned for racist opinions to be censorship, while he considers terminating the accounts of anyone who disagrees with him to be his prerogative and perfectly fair.
Elon Musk has never actually stood for "Free Speech," only for the speech he likes. He SAYS he likes free speech purely because it has better optics for him and worse optics for his opposition than "Let me say racist things."
It's the sort of thing I might do if I were so rich that I could burn tens of billions of dollars to run a major corporation just for fun. I mean, saying "get lost" to the government of a country of over 200 million people must be quite a rush.

I get what you're saying. People seem to view your comment as an endorsement of Musk, which it clearly isn't. But if I had Musk money, I would love to tell a government to fuck off, because there are plenty of righteous reasons to do so, as opposed to just stroking your ego as Musk is doing.
I know a guy who is quite rich.
Doesn't much care about speed limits because every time he loses his licence for 3 months he fucks off to another country for a while while he can't legally drive here.
Its kind of funny.
Exactly why fines should be proportional to your wealth/wages rather than a random fee that hurts the middle class and poor immensely.

See... That's the thing. I don't think he is having fun.
Think about it. The man has more money than he could ever spend. But he's so deeply insecure he is compelled to stay involved in these petty piss matches. And it infuriates him when people didn't treat him like Earth's special boy. He could be doing anything else.
I think he's a terribly unhappy person.
You make a good point. He does seem to get genuinely upset relatively often rather than just laughing as he trolls the world.

With all the money he has and all the things he could be doing, he chooses to be glued to twitter. No, he doesn't seem to be having fun. Not in the slightest. MySpace Tom is what having fun looks like. Musk is what trying desperately to look like you are having fun looks like.

Yeah, if twitter was run by a principled individual who actually was a free speech absolutist, I would be siding twitter. If twitter was anything other then an advertising platform, I would be siding with twitter. If twitter wasn't censoring news orgs that criticized Musk, I would be siding with twitter.

My country has hate speech laws and 99.9% of us aren't concerned or yelling "censorship!", because 99.9% of us aren't running around saying hateful shit that would get us arrested for hate speech. Only a racist is worried about being cancelled for racism, only a bigot is concerned about hate speech laws.

No, this is free speech absolutism. You can't say anything you want on any forum and expect zero consequences. That's ridiculous.
I mean, yes in theory, but it's also a social contract. We shouldn't allow people who advocate for violence or harm against other people.
There should be no censorship in theory. In theory, communism works. In theory.
