RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

It's a Festivus for the Rest of Us!

On this fine holiday, take a moment to pretend all of us Lemmings are seated at a grand table with one another, and we each may stand one-by-one and take time to air our grievances!

What are your grievances for 2024?

It's getting harder and harder to enjoy activities on a casual basis.

Your young kids want to play sports? Unfortunately, municipal rec leagues are dying off. Get ready to join a private league, with substantial fees and a travel schedule that will consume your weekends.

You want to watch just one sporting event this season? Too bad, it isn't being broadcast. It's now on a streaming service that you don't subscribe to.

You want to take your family skiing once to try it out? That'll be a few hundred dollars. The big resort owners want to drive sales of season passes, so they are making day passes stupid expensive. (The hill where I learned to ski now has demand pricing. I have seen day passes up to $200/person. 😭)

I tried watching TV authentically "like in the old days" during this holiday, looking things up only in a magazine guide and only watching live TV. And all the great films start at 11:30pm and end at bloody 2am!

(gestures at the United States)

Not just the election. There's a gross apathy towards our fellow humans that would have prevailed no matter who won. It's been very hard to love the world this year.

That's what I was about to say, but quickly checked if someone else had already said it first.

[email protected] if you want to discuss with other US citizens

It’s ridiculous that the different parts of the city can’t coordinate to dig once, schedule all needed maintenance on that section, and then repave once. Maybe it doesn’t matter for cars but for skateboards having uneven patches of cement is disruptive.

I'm 35 and still alone, virgin and living with my family. Half of the time I'm tired of living, Sometimes I wanna just erase myself but I don't have the courage to do it. So yeah.

I know how this goes, please don't try to send help messages that you're not alone or to talk to an specialist. That doesn't help me. Even punching me in the face would be more useful
