Oh cool, time for Bethesda to put out a modfucking patch three days before they release?

[–] [email protected] 32 points 3 months ago

I nominate 'modfucking patch' for expression of the year 2025

There's rumors of Bethesda working on an own Oblivion remake...

[–] [email protected] 24 points 3 months ago

In which case they will 100% force this to be taken down.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm fine with that. Let them remake it worse than the modding team under Rebel. So long as they don't stop the mod from being released, that is, because that would be a dick move after openly giving it permission to continue.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Oh they absolutely will though. No fucking way they would force themselves to compete with a free (and probably better) version of the same game.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

I honestly can't decide what would be worse for profits. The mod update is hugely well known.

...

Given the atmosphere around just about everything corporate, I feel they should take a small loss here for the brand and release alongside the mod, or after it, or whatever. Good PR move that should make people want to buy the game in good faith.

The only issue is this is Oblivion. That's a dedicated fanbase only beaten by the rabid battalions that want another Morrowind.

I don't think Bethesda will do that, in fact the case for Fallout London was also during the hype for the TV show so made sense to release new stuff for F4.

The remake is also rumoured to be made using UE5(shit) probably to be a testing ground for a different engine so even with the competition they are offering something different in the end of the day.

Pathetic... Don't give the parasite money.

I completely forget that this exists for 3 years at a time. What’s more impressive than the mod is the team continuing to create it for like 10 years without simply leaving when it became difficult.

It's pretty impressive they finished and TESVI is still nowhere in sight. Maybe we should ask them to start on that next 😄

[–] [email protected] 28 points 3 months ago

I'm more excited for this than TES6. I think Bethesda gave up after the 5th skyrim release.

It's a shame it's still based on a proprietary game engine. I look forward to someday when Skyblivion and Skywind game assets can run in some future version of OpenMW that has feature parity with the Skyrim engine.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

It's possible, if there's anyone working on such a thing. OpenMW took a long long time to become what it is today.

Awesome! Used to follow this project before ditching Reddit. Hopefully will work with Linux.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 months ago

It runs in the Skyrim Special Edition engine, so should work wherever SSE works. And SSE does work in Proton under Linux.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

Really excited for this. Skyrim doesn't have the greatest combat system, but Oblivion is the bastard middle child between Morrowind's dice rolls and Skyrim's more free system. Trying to go back to it now, even heavily modded, is really rough, but the world and stories told in Oblivion are a lot better than the constant radiant fiesta of Skyrim.

This might actually get me to buy skyrim.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If Enderal isn't on your radar yet, that is reason to buy Skyrim.

Total conversion mod that uses Skyrim's assets to build a completely new game (lore, characters, terrain, voice acting, etc are new, and have nothing to do with the Elder Scrolls universe).

It's crazy impressive for an indie dev crew's passion project.

Completely free, provided you own Skyrim.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

There's also Enderal, another total conversion based on Skyrim, with a completely original game world and mechanics. It's free, yet better than many commercially released RPGs.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

It's like $3 on GoG or something

My body is ready.
