I'm not sure if this is the best place for this post, I'm just curious to see what everybody else thinks.

It seems like a lot of communities (outside lemmy) have had enough and are banning twitter links after Elons recent Nazi salute.

Direct xitter links? Yes. Ban them. They bring no value a a screenshot couldn’t provide.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Screenshots can, have been, and will be doctored. Sometimes you read somrthing so insane, you gotta check the source. Except finding anything on that shithole of a site is painful, especially if you don't have an account, quadruply so on mobile.

Both would be a nice compromise.

Anything worth any value on Twitter will be reported on by another source. Link to those if you want corroborating evidence. The point is to not give the Nazis the traffic at all.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Yeah anything posted to Twitter should be taken with a massive grain of salt anyway, so it doesn’t really matter if it’s a screenshot or a direct link, it should only be considered a hint of something maybe true but never as proof.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 months ago

Yes. Fuck giving them traffic, and you have to log in to view parts of it anyway - screenshots are better if truly needed.

The playstation community just did.

And nothing of value was lost.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 months ago

Just screenshot it. I want nothing to do with that cesspool.

Why not just post screenshots? Not give anyone reason to accidentally give them traffic. People can still see what you wanted, win win

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago

If Lemmy doesn't, who will?

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago

Yes. Twitter has nothing of value left to offer the world. Anyone who's still on that platform is either not paying attention or supports neo Nazis.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

Yes they should be banned

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

blahaj local here, I believe that there is little to be gained from allowing continued linking to these walled gardens (especially since accessing anything on Twitter without an account is more of a hassle than it's worth.) I think it would be good to cut off the Twitter links, possibly with the rare exception for archive pages deemed able to promote discussion well enough to be worth compromise?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

Twitter no longer exists.

But X links should, indeed, be banned.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

Yes, ban direct links to twitter.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No. As much as I disagree with giving them traffic, they do allow for context if someone wants to divulge. Can we ban them from the main post link and have them in the description of the post?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

I don't have an account and musk stopped letting people without accounts read twitter links a while ago

I'm not a .world local if that matters, but yes.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

No, lemmy.world should not censor itself. I can decide for myself which link I click on. If people think they have to link to Twitter, then let them do it. I will never do that and I will never follow Twitter links. But I would still like to be able to do so on principle.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

I would say yes at this point, for sure.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Of course, we need the echo chamber to feel more like an echo chamber, you know?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, because this :::waves arms maniacally::: is a nothingburger.

:::waves arms maniacally:::

Like this?
