"Liberal: How can you go to bed at night after promoting violence? I get that they're Nazis but it's still violence.

Me:"

Nonviolence is a social agreement. If you don't promote violence against others, neither will I promote violence against you.

Since that premise doesn't hold for Nazis, the conclusion doesn't restrain me either.

Bash the fasc

They're trying to label antifa as a terrorist org. Think about that for a second.

Edit: thanks to @flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com it's come to my attention that this is not widely covered. Link to the bill is below

https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-resolution/26

[–] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What boggles my mind is, I can't find any articles talking about it. I had to read the actual document submitted to Congress.

It's complicity in the media is what it is.

[–] Hamartia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

This is the big problem with centrist media fact checkers: paltering doesn't count towards the tallying of deceptions.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

fucking morons. antifa is a concept, not a "org" like the proud pussy boys

the bad thing is they can label anyone they want as "antifa" then detain them without any actual charges.

"that's illegal!!!"

yea. and?

habeas corpus, due process, "innocent until proven guilty" -- bid farewell to all that, and anything else that was protecting you from them and not the other way around

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Pretty sure β€œinnocent until proven guilty” has been out the window for decades. How many people are currently locked up before their trial? I can name at least one.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

I roll my eyes real hard when moderates oversimplify to just "violence". As if genocide and defense against genocide are morally equivalent in the slightest.

It's a coward's way to sound principled while pretending state violence isn't violence.

If you're organizing use E2E comms and if you're researching use Tor Browser. Better yet use a Tails USB on a coffee shop wifi.

https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-use-signal

https://www.torproject.org/download/

https://tails.net/doc/first_steps/index.en.html

And don't communicate over email, even encrypted email.

Burner phone bought with cash set to auto upload to somewhere untraceable. After you are far away and safe.

If can't afford that and feel you need to document, disable all location tracking on your phone and put it in airplane mode. Do not take it out of airplane mode unless there is an extreme emergency. Not even wifi allowed. Disable all biometric unlock. Make a long PIN and memorize it, don't write it down. Keep the phone locked or set it up to lock with one click in case it is taken from you.

Just in total agreement here about everything else but we need proof.

Just want to say

Get these apps:

[Wasted] - https://f-droid.org/packages/me.lucky.wasted/ - This app allows you to set a timer for which if you don't unlock your phone for X amount of time, it will auto wipe. There are also a lot of other ways to trigger a wipe. Fake messenger apps like a fake Signal that, once tapped, initiates a wipe. A fake "Airple Mode" tile that, once tapped, initiates a wipe. Also a way to set a secret code that, if the app detects the code from notifications, initiates a wipe. (Example: You set a codeword like "AllCatsAreBeautiful2025" then send this from another channel like SMS, or some other messenger app, and then if "AllCatsAreBeautiful2025" shows up in the notification, the app will initiate a wipe.

Also this app: [Duress] https://f-droid.org/packages/me.lucky.duress/ - This one, I'm not sure if works anymore. It doesn't work on my samsung, but it did work on a Motorola that I had. But basically, you set either a fake password that if detected by the app, initiates a wipe. The fake password could also be [Your Password Length + X characters more], where X is at least 2 or more. Example. Your password is 2025, then you can set it to wipe if the app detects you entering any 6 digit code, or longer. If you just spam any code like 556789, the app will wipe.

Beware, these might not be foulproof. If the authorities knows about this beforehand, they can probably make your phone crash/close the apps. If your phone gets too hot, it will close some apps, so they could put your phone on top of a heater and it will close some apps, potentially the ones I mentioned above.

If you feel you need to document, just bring a camera. Doesn't matter if it's a DC-G9, or a point-and-shoot from Walmart, it's a simple matter to strip meta info from images. If the federal government really wanted to track who was at a protest, they could probably figure out who bought a "burner" phone, even if you used cash. Those cheap phones still upload a vast amount of tracking data, and even if you turn off location tracking, it's still on and working because Google doesn't allow you to turn off location for their services. So even with it turned off, you can still be caught with a geofence warrant.

"just leave fascism to fester and spread until it requires another world war, that's much less violent"

Makes total sense.

[–] ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

Makes total sense.

It does, when you realise they're confident enough in their privilege to believe (often rightfully) that a world war won't impact them personally.

Violence against Nazi isn't violence, it's exercising your civic duty.

Punch a local nazi today!

Well, go bitch about it on liberal.world.

[–] zooi@feddit.nl 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

I'm confused. I think of myself as a progressive liberal, and I think that people who threaten a tolerant society should be destroyed. This includes Nazis. Kill on sight. What about this isn't liberalism? Am I a dumbass?

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think they meant "neo-liberal"

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

They mean β€œI made a meme about protecting liberties with violence from the safety of my home, but would never actually act on the claimed beliefs which make me feel self superior to others.”

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I don't know where you are but in America a "liberal progressive" is understood by most of the population to be someone pretty far left. In far left places on the Internet (socialist groups, Marxist groups, anarchist groups) a "liberal" is a person that supports capitalism. So lefties hate liberals.

Also using the r-word is NOT cool.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Going online and telling other people to commit violence is incredibly easy. It also has little to no impact on actual violent activity.

By contrast, you've got politicians actively running cover for paramilitary in the US. If you can shoot someone and get away with it - as in during the Rittenhouse murder, the Daniel Perry murder, the NYPD subway shooting, various murders of migrants on the border... you can take this all the way back to Rodney King or the MOVE Bombing if you like - then you have a strong incentive to do it again.

By contrast, if you're a Christopher Dorner or a Micah Xavier Johnson or a John Allen Muhammad or a Luigi Mangione, state officials will have unlimited resources and full license to take them in dead or alive.

Consider a case in Houston Texas of police demolishing the side of a building to get at a suspect of a police shooting

You can talk all the shit you want about fascists but when push comes to shove where do you think you're going to be standing? Fascism works because the fascists are killers and the shitposters are terminally online dorks.

[–] damnedfurry@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

If you can shoot someone and get away with it - as in during the Rittenhouse murder

This was absolutely clear-cut self defense, and there is so much direct video evidence out there accessible to the public, including the whole damned trial, that anyone who still claims Rittenhouse "murdered" anyone in Kenosha is outing themselves as an ideologue who readily rejects inconvenient facts.

It's not murder to stop someone who is literally in the middle of an attempt to kill you, and "he shouldn't have been there" is 'she was asking for it by choosing to dress that way'-tier apologism.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No way. The kid took a guy illegally across state lines with the intention to intimidate if not shoot protestors to protect fucking insured business property. He went there with ill intent, it was recognized, and people fearfully reacted to subdue him.

He got his wish. He got to shoot two and walked scott free. Then made a bunch of money while psychopaths took him on tour around the country for people to cheer because he shot some "liberals."

I don't care about the fact that he thought he was fighting for his life. Maybe he was. But he engineered that situation himself. That is not at all comparable with the choosing to dress that way bullshit.

[–] damnedfurry@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The kid took a gun illegally across state lines

This is literally untrue at one end and deliberately deceitful on the other. Literally the only portion of that sentence that is correct and not misleading is "the kid", lmao:

  • He didn't take possession of the rifle until the morning after he arrived in Kenosha
  • "State lines" is deceitfully repeated ad nauseam, stating something that's literally true, but is obviously stated specifically that way with the intent to create the illusion that he traveled a great distance, far away from his community. But here are the facts:
    • He traveled 20 miles--he literally lived on the other side of the border.
    • He used to work there, his father lives there, etc.--this WAS his community, lol.

Pretty hilarious that the very first thing you retort with is both false and deceitful. People like you don't even know the most basic facts of the matter, and what you do know, you deliberately twist with deceitful intent. You've got your narrative, and damned if you aren't going to stick to it like glue, no matter what the reality is.

Thanks for proving my point so succinctly.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

I wasn't aware the distance was so short or he had connections to the area. That's fair and thank you for educating me.

The fact remains the took a gun to "protect" insured businesses. The real reason was to intimidate or get a chance to shoot a "liberal".

I mean no deceit.
