Why yes I do know him, he's me.
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either [email protected] or [email protected].
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email [email protected]. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try [email protected] or [email protected]
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

No. Should I ever mention enshittification or reducing exposure to "big tech" then usually tinfoil hat jokes at my expense ensue
I met up with some guys (and gals) from [email protected] at the Chaos Communication Congress in December. They also took a group photo together that I unfortunately missed.
Some people in my local Hackerspace also use Lemmy. One of them was Admin on feddit.de before it shut down.
If you have a Hackerspace where you live, there is a good chance that some people there use Lemmy too.
edit: Hacker as in Hacker Culture or in the sense of the German Wikipedia Entry for Hacker and not in the sense of the Security Hacker
Isn't this all a simulation anyway???
Seriously though, I do know several people IRL that are Lemmy users.
I wouldn't know because I've never mentioned it to anyone.
Sadly no. Ive recommended the fediverse to a couple dudes, one of them is too much of a normie to care (i will lecture him again soon xD) and the other doesnt like the fediverse😐 chose bsky instead of mastodon.. (oh and a third guy just said fuck u and fuck all this stuff alltogether, he was fed up with me complaining ab big tech lmaooo at least he uses matrix to chat w me now)
My husband recently rediscovered Lenny again and a friend joined. They both find it hard to stay since it's pretty quiet and don't have many active niches.
No. I recommended Lemmy to my friends, and they were all driven away by bad moderation, tankies, or transphobia within a day. They think I'm mad for using this site and surrounding myself with the people here.
I recommend it two the two friends I know that use reddit. The one didn't even join because there's no active sport communities. And the other left after about 3 months a little less.
There's no way to know
Yes. I shared a Star Trek meme with a coworker and they asked me where I got it. I told them about Lemmy and Tenforward and another coworker chimed in with "where every Vulcan knows your name"
That would imply that they know it even exists
Yes my sibling uses Lemmy. It was them that prompted me to join.
No. I happened across somebody on Lemmy from the same sub 100k city as me though.
I haven’t talked about it with my social circles but I would be surprised if nobody I know is on here.
No, I don't think I know anyone else that interacts with the fediverse. there are probably a handful that I know that are even aware of it.
I joined Lemmy when the API changes happened and tried to get a couple nerdy friends to join but they didn't bite
I actually know one person IRL that uses Lemmy. We both found it independently of one another.
Yep, my dad No discussion about it, we both just happened to join
What is real?
I have a few friends that are fed up with Microsoft and Google and other big tech. We've been degoogling and trying Linux together (errr, they have - I'm the grizzled Linux junkie they all reached out to for advice).
Most of them have tried all the different fediverse products and they've found homes here and there.
Some of them have graduated into self-hosting even. I find this bit wonderful, if it's unfortunate how far the industry had to rot before they considered the move.
Everyone I know in real life only uses Facebook...
I only saw him in concert once.
Several lemmings surprisingly.
Yes, myself. That's it though
My brother.
lol no.
I know one guy, but I know him from a IRC (now Matric) channel, but we are offline friends too and visited each other often.
