Honestly, sometimes would be nice to have it while phone is charging and I want to use it.

I prefer a good parallel port

The VGA plug in OP is part of a series and I bought all three, including the SCSI one (which is objectively the best one)

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Hadn’t thought of RCV video plug, that’s good too.

especially if the cable branches and has a terminator on the dangling remainder.

3d print artifacts kind of spoil the retro aesthetic

I'm pretty sure you can just buy those ends and slap em on

It's just plastic molding around the connector.

Edit: it would probably help keep the connections stable by minimizing wiggle. Know how in old phones you've sometimes gotta get that plugged in juuuust right? I'd expect this to help prevent that.

Know how in old phones you've sometimes gotta get that plugged in juuuust right?

In my experience, that generally means you just need to clean the pocket lint out of the USB port.

Or just that Micro-B was a shit-stain of a connector that depended on the world's tiniest springs exhibiting no wear.

Mini-B was actually pretty solid.

[–] Cenzorrll@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Mini-b would break the port instead of the cable

[–] voodooattack@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Problem is how to fit it through the plug. You can’t just buy an old port and do this without splitting it open entirely

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

I'd imagine they would come like this and you just clip it on/glue the plastic together.

Just find someone with a printer, or checkout your library if they have one to use. The original design that was made was very stupid and required soldering and whatnot..

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You can get a great printer for not very much money these days

Ah ok. Forgive my ignorance, but some of the most reliable and inexpensive printer manufacturers are Prusa (Czech Republic) and Bambu (China). Do they not ship to Egypt?

[–] voodooattack@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Import tariffs and shipping alone would cost more than triple the price :/

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Holy crap, that's unfortunate :(

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What traumatic childhood event possesed you to do this to an innocent VGA plug?

[–] Goretantath@lemm.ee 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Eww why ruin a good thing with CRapple..

[–] sfu@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

Look at it the other way. It improved the crapple plug.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago

This is actually a cute idea.

I want a Parallel adapter for the iPad.

[–] Object@sh.itjust.works 24 points 3 days ago

USB C has a specification for screw locking, so this can happen in the future if it becomes a common practice.

Source

This specification in conjunction with the USB Type-C Cable and Connector Specification define the following to provide standardized screw locking mechanisms for the USB Type-C plug:

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 12 points 3 days ago

I would buy this.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

New 3d print target locked

It's great if you have an antique iPhone. Lulz
