"Exercise a high degree of caution in China due to the risk of arbitrary enforcement of local laws."

"Our ability to provide consular assistance in China is limited due to the level of transparency in China’s judicial system. It may also impact your ability to obtain effective legal assistance."

In China, you may also be subject to:

  • severe punishments, even for non-violent acts such as financial crimes. Chinese authorities may also apply the death penalty for crimes deemed serious, including drug offences
  • an exit ban, which you may only learn about as you go through customs and immigration controls when trying to leave China. An exit ban may prevent you from leaving the country if you, your family or your employer and/or business associates are involved in any open civil or criminal investigations, including business disputes

If you are a dual citizen, you should always travel using your valid Canadian passport and present yourself as Canadian to Chinese authorities. If you enter China on a Chinese passport or identity card, the Chinese government may consider you a citizen of China, and refuse to grant you access to Canadian consular services.

I'm just an Aussie, so don't mind me, but the advice at the end about entering on your Canadian passport seems like something that might be considered a crime that would cause further issues. You must enter Australia on your Australian passport if you have one, for example.

Not sure whetver I interpret your comment correctly. But that's right, if you're Australian. But this advisory comes from the Canadian government for people travelling with a valid Canadian passport.

What I'm saying is that if China discovers your deception, and if they have a similar law/rule/guideline about entering China on your Chinese passport as a dual citizen, they might not take kindly to you doing so.

or i’d say even if they don’t have that rule. if you offend the border guard for “not being proud of being chinese” or something like that - which can happen in literally any country - they have a lot of power to make your life miserable

Yes please don’t mention they are dual Citizens, were found guilty in a court of narcotics offences. Just say ‘China kills Canadians”

Sickening xenophobia

Executing people for drug offences is pretty fucked in the first place. Hell, executing people at all is atrocious. The death penalty is barbaric.

I agree, but lots of countries still do it

Saudi did 300 odd last year, but you won’t find my friend here posting about that.

Nor will you find them posting anything else to the Canadian community.

Ah, the good old ”unless you (and all of your perceived group) have already covered all the world, then this particular point is xenophobic/hypocritical/whatever”…

edit: typos

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

What if you only post about one country?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh well if everyone is doing it then I guess its OK.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

At that point you may as well join in on the fun so you don't stand out as a loser

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

I don't think anyone travels to Saudi Arabia if they don't have to. It's a backwards hell hole. Label that xenophobia if you want but you couldn't pay me to travel there.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

OP's point is they are leaving important details and using anger inducing headlines to get readers.

If I commit a crime, I will get punished? And if someone related to me gets investigated, I will be also under suspicion? Isn't this the most basic of stuff? What in tarnation is this?

Your level of reading comprehension is incredibly bad. Oh, an .ml account? Never mind, seems about right now.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You might have (intentionally?) misunderstood the content.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I would love to be told what I misunderstood, as from what I have read it seems to be just generic "China scary" stuff. If anything the points provided could be pointed at any country, even the US.

The entire account is Sinophobic. Take everything with a pinch of salt.

Edit: how many accounts are you operating these days ?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Right? Go to another country follow their laws or risk them coming after you, pretty simple.
