That's unexpected. Wasn't expecting Switch Direct just a week before Switch 2 Direct.

It's 30 mins long:

Tune in on March 27th, at 7 a.m. PT for a livestreamed Nintendo Direct, featuring around 30 minutes of upcoming games for Nintendo Switch. There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation.

Information about Nintendo Switch 2 will be shared on April 2nd at 6 a.m. PT in the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 – 4.2.2025 presentation.

I'm guessing we'll see some more Metroid Prime 4 gameplay and maybe a shadow drop of 2 and 3 remastered?

I'm excited, they had no reason to do this, so there must be some cool stuff they were holding on to and it's their last chance to show it!

They've held off on Prime 4 for so long, I expect it to be part of the main Switch 2 reveal, not this mini direct.

Agreed. It was in development for the switch with bandai namco version..... But since retro restarted development, I assume that version was cancelled in favor for switch 2 exclusivity

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Not exclusivity. The game was announced to be coming to the Switch 1 with the last trailer in June last year.

It would be totally on brand to deliever their best direct yet, just to disappoint next week. However, I expect maybe something about Pokemon and Metroid and otherwise just listing the last big third party titles. Surely, they don't have any new first party titles lined up, right?

I haven't even finished their christmas direct games yet lmao. It's so nice not having to worry about how the entire game industry is crashing.

I'm guessing this is the final Switch 1 only Direct. And maybe we'll see a couple games shown off both this week and next week with the differences on display. Metroid Prime 4 will probably be the biggest showcase of what a cross-gen title can look like.

Don't expect anything too big, they'll save the heavy hitters for Switch 2. Ports and remasters are the typical filler for the end of a console's lifespan.

Thinking about it more though, perhaps they do have something big enough to justify a separate Switch 1 Direct a week before the Switch 2 Direct. The question is, what could it be, what's the biggest thing they wouldn't save for Switch 2?

  • Last we heard, Prime 4 is still a Switch 1 game, though it really ought to be cross-gen at this point. I'm sure it'll be in either tomorrow's Direct or next week's. The fact that there is a Direct tomorrow means I'm leaning towards this being the heavy hitter that justifies having a Switch 1 Direct. If it's not though, we could see Prime 2/3 tomorrow and 4 next week.

  • Galaxy 2 seems like an obvious pick, people have been wondering where it is ever since it wasn't in 3D All Stars. It's too much of a safe pick to be the headliner though.

  • I'm hoping we see some cult classic brought back, something that will get a few people really really excited. F-Zero GX immediately comes to mind. But also, after they teased us with 99, we need a new F-Zero more than we need a remaster.
Mother 3 would break the internet, if it were to ever happen this would be the time to do it, but we all know it's never happening. Mother 3 is purely a meme.
But off the top of my head I can't think of what other cult hits would be a big deal right now.

  • Thinking in terms of what studios we haven't heard from in a while, HAL and Intelligent Systems. There's surely something Kirby and something Fire Emblem in the works, and those could be late Switch titles rather than Switch 2 titles.

  • Third parties, I'm gonna stake my bet that we'll see Chrono Trigger. SE recently teased that they have multiple projects in the works, and CT remains conspicuously absent from Switch still. It's also not something they'd need to save for Switch 2. So tomorrow is the most logical time to reveal it.

  • Silksong isn't real. It's a collective fever dream we all hallucinated. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I'm loving the Silksong memes, would it break the internet if it was announced tomorrow? What will the memes be about after that?

Nintendo would be more likely to do a Link's Awakening-style reimagining of EarthBound than an official Mother 3 release. And they're not going to reimagine EarthBound.

Chrono Trigger 2.5D seems likely at some point, though.

I stopped caring about the Switch 2 once I saw the CUDA core count. My PC's GPU has literally more than 10x the amount.

I get that Nintendo hasn't cared about graphics since the GameCube, but they're not even trying to make a reasonably modern-ish machine anymore. They're several generations behind in the graphics department at this point. At least the Wii was only a single generation behind in its day...

Nintendo games stopped being interesting to me when the Wii era started anyway. I'll just wait for an emulator.

Edit: And don't even get me started on the fact that they hate their fans so much that they sue them for modding their games (and don't forget when they used to issue copyright strikes towards people who were simply streaming gameplay footage). Seriously, fuck Nintendo.
