I'd rather have notifications for channels that don't upload very often (thus I don't interact much with them) because when they do upload, I'm likely to miss it.

Yeah, I don't need notifications about the guy I watch every day uploading his daily video. I know it's gonna be there unless he mentions it won't be. But the dude that uploads once every 6 months with a video essay about whatever rabbit hole he went down for the last 6 months? I want those ones for sure, and that's exactly what's gonna get toned down with these notifications
Well according to the article, it'll lessen the notifications of the channels you don't engage with, as I understand it's the notifications you often dismiss that will suffer. So if you click on those rarely-uploading ones every time, you should be safe.
Ah, so they'd be competing with my phone's already aggressive need to protect me from notifications it deems unwanted. Be that as it may, I don't use the feature anyway.
This is such a silly idea. One thing that many tech companies seem to forget nowadays: software needs to be predictable. If I subscribe to a channel, I expect the system to notify me about new uploads. If it doesn't, people will assume that it doesn't work. This is the reason why I've cancelled my YouTube Premium subscription: Youtube thinking it knows better than me.
So glad Google is deliberately ignoring my requests because it thinks it knows what I want better than I do.
Although it won't matter to me, I have notifications disabled entirely because there's literally never an urgent YouTube video.
But this is just the type of mentality that absolutely drivers me bonkers. My car is also constantly turning the wipers and HVAC on automatically, even after I've manually turned them off.
It's only a matter of time before Google borks the fine grained notification system in Android in the quest to serve you more ~~ads~~ information to enhance your life.
Apps get one chance with me. As soon as I get an unsolicited notification begging me to interact with them, that's it, 100 percent silenced.
Don't you hate it when you get push notifications for channels you subscribe to...
No. In fact, I hate that I never get push notifications about new uploads ever. Not to subscriptions or for things I have set to notify me. Shit even on the desktop site, I only ever end up having it show me new notifications after I've already found the new video "in the wild."
The only good thing YouTube could do is just to die entirely.
This reads like a comment an LLM bot would make after being trained on a Stallman fangirl forum
Or a comment that someone who isn't into capitalistic monopolies and mass surveillance and control by fascists wrote.
youtube is serving some great content for free. I've learned a lot from videos served on yt. Yes, there is also googol amount of shit on it but If it died today, it would be like a library that burned.
Who can serve all that for free?
newpipe, by the way. i don't see adds
Who can serve all that for free
Peertube.
Wait, is this YouTube?
Meanwhile the stupid ads every time in incredibly loud voice "Did you know that this crypto bro can wank your wallet off in a jiffy?". And this is why I use adblock. Sso I don't have to watch and listen to removed too loud ads.
The ads are louder than the damn video Iβm there to watch. I feel like this just started because I donβt remember having this problem a few months ago.
Thatβs what I thought this new change was going to be. Fuck me for thinking YouTube would do something that would hurt advertisers and benefit the actual audience.
Ads being louder than the video is a descendant from TV programming. Commercials are always blaringly louder than the show
Who in their right mind enables notifications for new videos? There can be countless subscriptions. Better to simply check the ones in the app.
I might watch videos in Youtube, but I keep my subscriptions on Piped because it doesn't shit algo stuff down my throat constantly. And I can enable deArrow to get rid of the clickbait thumbnails.
I was trying to figure out what the heck they were talking about when they referred to push notifications. And then I realized that this was in reference to the YouTube app which I have never actually used (other than to cast YouTube videos to my TV. But I always disable the thing immediately after using it for that purpose.) So I have never gotten notifications from YouTube about anything, literally ever. LoL π
Newpipe is slowly becoming better
I watch it throughvTubular anyway. I don't get notifications.
