Piracy is free
If we can find a way to pirate these...
Give it some time, we will.
We will

I mean this is a shit post but like Nintendo isn't really the "tip" type of company or microtransactions type of company.
They're the milking the shit out of their franchises and keeping premium prices on their games type of company.
Gamers on Lemmy don’t even know why they’re mad at Nintendo honestly
A community, forged by a shared desire to see software and technology be free, open, and driven by passion.
With members who usually find their way here fleeing the profit driven enshittification that so often stifles this pursuit.
And for some unknown reason, they are mad at a company that pursues aggressive litigation against free and open passion projects that were the very embodiment of the community's shared values...
Well that's just a fucking mystery if I've ever seen one!
Don't forget, you see way less Nintendo gaming videos and streamers. Because they are greedy and want a cut of what is made. They're not happy with the good word of mouth, they NEED to get paid.
Also look at this shit with PalWorld. Working to retroactively patten very basic game mechanics because a franchise that refused to evolve got beat by the new kids.
90% sure this guy is baiting
can't believe i wasted my time explaining myself to this brainlet.
Mario? Screw that guy. I'd tip for Luigi, though.
Amazing. They actually made the PS5 Pro look like a good deal.
You know this isn’t real right?
The 80$ MSRP for the game is real though
for that price the switch 2 should be included
Technically, there's a bundle that includes the game for $50.
I really don’t understand the anti Nintendo thing. They want money? So do all game companies. They sue people pirating? So do the others. They are all corporations, none are your friends. The weirdest thing is the steam people who are convinced that THEIR corporation and THEIR billionaire Gabe is the only good billionaire on earth. He’s not.
It's their level of aggression towards fan projects that sets them apart I think.
It's not that they want money, Nintendo is mainly anticonsumerist, but they're also a terrible, evil company. Here's a couple examples why i think so off the top of my head:
- Locked down hardware. Well, at least they try to lock it down as much as possible.
- Insane prices for hardware and games. (50 quid for base Animal Crossing fucked me off when I realised that the DLC costs 50 quid fucking more, i returned my Switch).
- Shitty customer service (look up joy con drift)
- Lawsuits left and right:
- DMCA to strike down FOSS emulators because they included a 16 byte decryption key that's literally public knowledge at this point. Funnily enough, they use a similar FOSS emulator in their own products.
- Sued the small company that owns Pal World because they included some of their "patents". We all know that's bullshit.
- Sued a journalist for writing for a blog about piracy and fucked his life despite him having no involvement in any of the development. (he was forced to take a deal to avoid them making things worse.)
- Sued a guy who did in fact enable piracy. That's fair. Taking 30% of his income for the rest of his life is fucking evil.
- Fucked over streamers playing the game on release day because they were in an earlier timezome than japan...
- Fucked over creators playing their games with an emulator.
- Fucked over creators on all platforms in general for literally no reason.
- Took down many MANY fan projects because they could.
- They got mad at event organisers and pulled out last minute because the organisers used a mod to allow internet multiplayer, which caused the official Smash tourney to be cancelled during covid...
meanwhile Valve:
- makes the hardware as open as possible:
- also literally wrote proton
- also feel free to use any input device to play games
- also your game console is a fully functional computer you can do whatever the fuck you want with.
- also, your screen broke? Here, let me help you fix it.
- charges reasonable amounts:
- 30% from the developer is industry standard
- has frequent sales
- orange box costs like a quid on sale and the lastest halflife costs about 20 on sale.
- you can "return" games if you don't like them.
- first class customer service.
- got a guy arrested for hacking and leaking their source code, which is fair.
- allows and enourages modding.
- massive supporter and contributor of tournaments of their games
- allows the use of their IPs in transformative ways (3rd party games, sfm, etc).
but yeah. They're clealy the same thing. no differences whatsoever.
By evil company standards that’s pretty benign
Like Hershey uses slave labor, Chiquita helped transport weapons for paramilitary groups, nestle well we have all heard about what nestle does.
Just about everything you listed that they do can be summed up as they vehemently protect their IP that while they are overkill they just aren’t even close to other video game companies like blizzard who protect sexual harassers
you're right about other companies being worse, but that doesn't make it ok for nintendo to do what it's doing. They 100% deserve the hate that they get, which was my point really.
It's the way they go after fan projects like rom hacks, the way they continuously rerelease 30 year old gameswith minor tweaks for full price, their obsession with destroying emulators, the fact that all of their IP is exclusive to their console, their games rarely go on sale, and their prices are far too high considering their hardware is like 3 generations behind the curve.
They been selling a TON of overpriced garbage as of late
Yeah. Valve's 30% cut is greed. So is their (alleged) anticompetitive behavior of forcing price parity with other stores (aka devs can't price things cheaper than Steam elsewhere).
I mean, I like their store. I like most of their behavior, but I am also waiting for the hammer to drop, and everyone should.
I choose not to play
15%? 20% is the new minimum suggested tip nowadays
0% is gaining favor
The sad thing is: This would work.
When Mario Galaxy dropped as the Wii’s launch title in 2007, it cost $50. Adjust for inflation, and that comes out to $77 in 2025. Why tf are people clutching their pearls over the price? Why are people acting like Covid and inflation didn’t happen? Nintendo is staying right in that same price range it always has. The bitching and whining needs to stop.
Why are all you poors mad that things you could afford before have increased their prices to match inflation while your wages haven't?
How I'm reading your comment, btw
So tired of seeing the same "inflation!!" BS trotted out, as if buying power has remained the same. It hasn't, at all.
Wages have stayed stagnant during that time, so it might not have gotten much more expensive in comparison to other stuff, it has gotten more expensive compared to what we have left over after paying for necessities.
Now adjust our salaries to inflation please because they’re lagging behind.
I agree with your point, but not a fan of the inflammatory delivery.
I wouldn't dream of sending a tip to Nintendo or any other large company, but I did send a tip to SureAI (game devs, nothing to do with the bullshit we're currently calling 'AI') after playing Enderal. One of the best games I've ever played, zero ads or microtransaction BS, completely free. It was literally just a passion project by an indie dev crew. $60, cuz it's as good as any AAA game I've played. They earned the fuck out of every cent.
lol but seriously this is the first time I'm not buying a Nintendo console on launch in a long time. Their prices here in Canada were already absurd but this gen is just unreal.
There's at least one die hard Nintendo fan out there that's gonna custom tip $100+ because being a Nintendo fan is their personality. Nintendo should be selling them special loyalty edition consoles for $10k or something and give the rest of us a break.
is that 25% on top of tariff or msrp?
Custom tip amount.
