DHL Express, a division of Germany's Deutsche Post, said it would suspend global business-to-consumer shipments worth over $800 to individuals in the United States from April 21, as U.S. customs regulatory changes have lengthened clearance.

DHL in the U.S. is really bad. You might as well just hand your package to a homeless person. This actually benefits Americans.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Why do you have to take a shit on homeless people just to make your dumbass point?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

I’ve been homeless and work closely with the homeless.

No homeless person was harmed here. It was a person making a point. Ffs chill with the sjw

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I’ve been homeless too, and I live five miles from the bridge I lived under in winter as a kid so I didn’t freeze to death after the Gospel Mission kicked me out for forgetting to sit through the mandatory bible reading. So why don’t you take your shit opinion and fuck off, asshole. I’ll get offended by whatever I want.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Ah so you meant to write the op was “hey, as a homeless dude, I’m offended ya prick so fuck right off”. Cant argue with that!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's an apt comparison. What do you think will happen to a package given to a desperate person? That's all OP said, but no, lemmy throwing the upvotes for getting on your moral soapbox.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

I guess I could have said "random person" but yeah, it seems like people just like to be outraged and dogpile when they see downvotes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Why is gifting a parcel to a homeless person taking a shit on them?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I never personally have experienced anything negative with them. FesEx on the other hand... I also have a pending international shipment I paid an extra $100 for to make it DHL instead of FedEx ... Wonder what will happen now.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They’re just trying to get their mental gymnastics warmed up for the upcoming shitstorm v2.whatever the fuck it is we’re on now

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So we can hope companies like Tesla die off, but not other shitty companies? Just because it's european doesn't mean it deserves my business.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Your comment made me think you were making it from the perspective of a magat but if that isn’t the case, I’ll be more lenient and my apologies

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I just really hate DHL in the U.S. but I understand that they're the defacto international carrier especially in europe. I know that Pitney Bowes also does some kind of international logistics, Idk if they actually do last mile or not.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

That’s fair for sure, I really get irritated with fedex and don’t think I’ve used dhl myself so no experience there to claim anything. I have had some hair pulling moments waiting for stuff from Europe so I imagine that was them if they’re the ones everyone uses there. USPS has been the most consistent for me but that’s just domestic

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

DHL in the rest of the world is the way to go. Fuck FedEx. In the U.S. I only use UPS and USPS because they are union and also much less shitty and cheaper than FedEx.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah my options were only DHL and FedEx in this case. I prefer USPS and UPS over DHL when it is an option.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (3 children)

DHL, FedEx and UPS all fill the same roll of "Fucking Christ, why did they have to use them for shipping?

Something will happen to make the experience a pita.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

So basically all your shipping companies suck there -- except for the one that's a federal self-funded agency? Weird.

I think one of the bigger problems is that Americans expect their stuff to be left right at their door, instead of them doing the last-mile themselves. Particularly if you live in a bigger city, taking a short walk to a packet locker or service point is so much more convenient for everyone.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I've never had an issue with UPS. I use pirate ship to send packages. Larger or heavier packages are better to send UPS. Usually ground service takes two days, on par with priority mail.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

You have a sail boat?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

UPS is rock and roll. Their employees are well paid and have solid benefits. You can tell because they're always happy and positive. Rarely, if ever, had an issue.

FedEx OTOH, jesus. Their employees are more like contractors and are under constant pressure. They're treated like shit and it shows.

Funny thing, I never see the same FedEx driver twice, love my UPS and USPS man. Turns out assigning regular routes brings efficiency and happy customers.

Had to tussle with people at my old company to get the UPS account info for shipping. "Just use the FedEx account." No, fuck them, not rewarding bad behavior.

Very little experience with DHL, they're a far distant third in commercial shipping.

The USPS is a marvel.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Your statement about this benefiting Americans is stupid beyond all possible belief. But your statement about DHL is accurate. Every time I get a package from DHL (maybe once every few years) it's always delivered to the next town over with no explanation.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Americans will actually get their $800+ packages on time, sounds like a benefit to me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Which is literally why I shit on them, and then you defended them. So which is it? You defending them or shitting on them? Because I've never not had an issue with DHL.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Ime it's almost always handed off to USPS for final delivery

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

The $800 exemption is going to end in May, so idk why they wouldn't suspend all shipments.
