can it at least not look like those horrid mobile ads where the woman farts into her husbands face and he vomits himself to death, before revealing that it's advertising a fucking slot machine game?

We are slowly transitioning from situations that were on the Simpsons to situations that were on Futurama.

I mean worth noting much like the simpsons, a good portion of futurama is mocking actual events or traits of companies. Especially ones like the eye phone etc...

It's most likely also no coincidence a lot of the same people are involved

Highest bidder? No no no, don't be ridiculous. They will sell that data to anyone and everyone who will buy it.

Putting aside all the arguments about LLMs, intelligence, and mental health of those seeking such companions...if you're going to go down this route, you absolutely do it locally.

Wow whoever could have guessed that this AI companion you access through your phone , which the phone itself has been proven to harvest your data, is also harvesting your data.

"Local roleplayers" who've been running GPT-J finetunes on desktops before ChatGPT was even a thing saw this coming a mile away. Look up Pygmalion, Janeway, all those finetunes that predate even Llama 1.

One can run a not-terrible RP bot on 8GB+ phones or decent PCs, or use Kobold Horde bots that are at least ostensibly privacy friendly and totally free. Sometimes I host one for others when my GPU is idle.

...A problem, as always, is shitty capitalism and enshittification. App stores have no incentive to show free, locally runnable stuff to people.

is it only me or are most post on lemmy designed by and for ants? I cant read sht with that resolution, even after clicking the download preview on photon UI. it pisses me off how uncertain I am that this is somehow a me problem

It's perfect on my 40" TV. Mobile is a PITA for browsing or watching video. Go do something else until you can chill with an actual screen.

Let me know when Joi from Blade Runner 2049 comes around.

Seriously. She's an unsettling version of the AI girlfriend. She's wonderful and perfect and only lacking physical contact. Until, well, they figured that bit out, sorta.

Her AI was a bit unsettling. Just close enough to being a real companion, but not quite. Never felt so crushed to see an AI bite the dust. Murdered, really. Hell, I guess the whole damned movie was unsettling.

Is it unsettling? I'd find out more expected, myself. Everything is data mining me, and selling the information. Way of the world.

I don't like it, but it's not unsettling.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's both unsettling and unsurprising.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

to discover

Isn't that just kinda expected? The other end is a robot running on some company's server.
