Advertising doesn't work on me, because I see no ads.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I can think of one time in the last decade an add influenced me to shop, that resulted in a sale. I can think of literal countless times an advert has annoyed me to the point I would never shop the product they are showing again.

When advertising is done right, you don't know it influenced you. That's why it's scary.

There seems to be an inverse relationship between how often one sees/hears an ad, and the quality of the product being advertised.

Holy shit that dancing banana is a throwback

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

I can still hear "It's peanut butter jelly time!" whenever I see it lol

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Same and it’s kinda fun. New games and movies come out all the time without me knowing anything about them.

"oh shit, and i can enjoy it right now? Sweet"

I don't see ads unless I'm using someone else's TV. And then it pisses me off

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

I get irrationally angry if I'm even in a room where there are ads.

And what do Krabby Patties have? Onions.

I don't want any crass, but I feel like commercials are brain rapee, brainwashing.

This should need your permission.

That's all it is. It's pure and simple. It's brainwashing. How many times you have to see a coke commercial. You know coke exists. If you want to get it, you'll get it. How many times you have to see McDonald's commercial. If you eat that crap, you know it exists. Go eat it.

They spent that money that they were not advertising on either making the product better or or on their employees, Our lives will be much better.

I've generally stayed away from commercials since approximately 2007.

I cringe when I hear one or see one now. It's so ridiculous and over the top.

One caught me by surprise yesterday when I was watching a video in Cognito mode about Capital One.

Oh, please use our credit card. You can help your daughter become better at hockey and you can attend her games. Please use our credit card.

Simply pulling at your emotions. Say you're a middle class family and you can't afford to go to the game sometimes, but oh, you can put it on your credit card and be a better dad

Fuck you city bank.

I feel like advertisers and capitalism are so gross, they've poisoned the whole concept.

I don't think there's anything innately wrong or violent to put up a flyer that says like "I'm starting a frisbee club. We're meeting Saturdays at Noon in the park". That's an ad. But it's a whole other beast from ads that track you. Or ads that try to make you feel insecure or inadequate.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

That's simply informational. Ads that try to actively get your attention to change your mind and get you to do something, that's what's evil. It's brainwashing, pure and simple. Plus they're a waste of valuable time.

You know where capitalism should be applied? Immigration.

We should be having governments tripping over themselves to bring people into their country semi-permanently.

I think, in an ironic twist, we'd all be living in socialist utopias.

Not like, Trump's gold card. I mean like actually trying to attract and retain talent the same way employers do. High quality affordable healthcare. Paid time off. Work/life balance. Exceptional pay.

Leaving your country for another should be no different than switching employers and moving to your new job. Relocation stipends and all.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago

yep, and the benefits should be well advertised and guaranteed.

I'm lovin' it. You're having it your way, and where's the beef? You're everywhere you want to be.

But what's in your wallet?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

But what's in your wallet?

watches a moth fly away

Nothing, now. :(

Advertizing should be illegal. It's visual pollution and makes people less comfortable in every environment they are in.

Amazon should be "nationalized" by the UN or EU, and then ran as THE global marketplace app.

If you want to find a product or see advertisements for products you can go to that specific tool and find what you need. And then we can ban all advertisements outside that one tool.

Stock photo looks like DarkViperAU after a rough couple of years.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

haha lemmy eating itself already?

I'm impressed with how quickly you alienate everyone

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

The fuck is this even supposed to mean? Username definitely checks out.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Say what you mean. I have no idea what your comment is saying without saying.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This article, even as a satire, marginalizes aphantasiacs and gives platform to have our valuable insights drowned out by mockery from within. I have literally watched it happen dozens of times online and IRL. It's half the reason I was chased off of reddit.

The bigotry gets to the point that it is social violence despite peer reviewed studies that have repeatedly shown that people with no visual imagery are not affected by tactics that are designed to manipulate visual imagery

If it's not controversial to say that a deaf man is immune to verbal insults, IT FUCKING SHOULD BE CONTROVERSIAL TO SAY PEOPLE WITH NO VISUAL IMAGERY ARE IMMUNE TO PROPAGANDA

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't get it. Is it a comparison with Neo (and Matrix is a commercial film).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I also don't get it but I think that is because it is making fun of me

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

It can't be making fun of you because I am the ONE.
