This is the absolute pits. I know a Palestinian lad who was stateless until he got an Irish passport a few years back. I was so, so happy for him when he did.
Dumping a stateless person out into the unknown is one of the cruelest things you could do. But no....We can go lower.....

This is a similar story to my friend. Stateless Gazan parents but he was born in UAE and has never set foot on Palestinian soil. Horror story for that poor woman.

Oh the update is that she flew over international waters and that constitutes leaving. Which means anyone flying anywhere outside the lower 48, even among the states could get caught up in this if the plane enters international waters at any point.
This doesn’t make sense with how laws regarding flights over international waters work, which is generally that the laws of the country the plane is registered to apply while in international waters. If you get on an American plane in the US and land in a US territory, that’s not leaving the US. They clearly started from their conclusion and worked backwards.
