Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1348 readers
200 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

The man owns like 20 houses and you didn't specify the house he currently resides in so it's fine :3

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

Also it just got married. Its not at fucking home!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Doesn't break rule 3, you weren't being mean to another user. PTB.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

PTB. I feel like the benefit to humanity would be much nicer than one dude continuing to leech off the planet.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Rediculous. Rule 3 is be nice to each other but you didn't insult any other user

[–] [email protected] 4 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Twist: bezos is the mod edit: still PTB

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You not agreeing with the rules of the comm does not automatically translate to the mods power tripping.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

The comment did not break rule 3

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Power tripping = not agreeing with me

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Needs context of the community or at least of the "Rule 3".

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think from context we can gather that the removal was due to "advocating violence"

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True, I think most of us here can agree with that. This is just a joke post though- OP knows they broke a stupid rule in a funny way, and came here to have a laugh about it

Im sorry, it's true. You can still kill nazis and sometimes be barefoot for no reason while doing it, though.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

I'm barefoot right now for no reason, so gonna mark this as 50% completed.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 17 hours ago

An admin even. The worst of all.

This one. See the "M" symbol?

WebUI wins again. I love just using the browser.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 hours ago

In Eternity it's a little green shield icon.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 14 hours ago

Light mode users posting screenshots makes me wish hell was a thing.

Like the cool kind with burning lakes. Not the boring kind with burning rivers.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I hate the browser. Zero options. My favorite part of Voyager is being able to hide Voting numbers so that I have no idea what anybody thinks. It’s beautiful.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 18 hours ago

Got that too:

WebUI is so nice. Tor browser for anonymity.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You deserve to be beaten up.

(Not really, but I think we can all see why that rule exists in some form or other)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 14 hours ago

Maybe. But i keep up on my cardio, so 🤷‍♀️

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No. YOU is a rule breaker. THEM is not.

Billionaire should be killed. Nazis should be shot.

…. Is not breaking a rule.

The point is the direct attack on a user, that’s not cool.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Wow, rude to the nazis and billionaire ceo's of lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Ha ha. I don’t know if there are any billionaires here…

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

If you have a million dollars saved up or onherited or whatever, ill scowl at you and tell you that money should be put to good use, but i dont tjink you should get the wall for that alone.

A million dollars is a solidly nice house in a good place. Im against suburbs, the form of it, but the basic thing is something everyone deserves to have. A billion dollars is several neighborhoods of those. You literally canmot use that. Thats enough you vould buy a 2 million dollar house for every day of the year, sleep in each one only one day a year, and still have enough money for truly degenerate decadence every waking hour of your life until you die.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I am of the opinion that a single person should not be allowed to have more the a billion in wealth. Even that is absurdly high.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 hour ago

Yeah. Yeah i think the actual numbervis probBly far far lower, but i think if ypu have a billion dollars you do need to get the fucking wall.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Right, because Jeff Bezos is an active lemmy poster.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

little did we know, dessalines was bezos all along

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

even worse, also satoshi nakomoto, and Q, all at the same time, rofl!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

No, q is the mypillow guy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 14 hours ago

No hes a .world mod.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am not the OP but the rule 3 is be nice to each other. Not only it is too vague but i don't think Jeff Bezos

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

While I think the mod is just doing regular mod stuff; that is an overly broad rule to justify it.

I think one can argue that excellence to our fellow beings would be a revolution that burns all those houses down!

They need an anti insurrection rule on that community, to fit with their plain, vanilla, safe guidelines

[–] [email protected] 1 points 14 hours ago

They can't acknowledge that though, because they're ptb

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

They're far, far too cowardly to rephrase the rules or make new ones that are clear and explicit.

Just little tyrants, self-appointed thought police.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There are good reasons why this kind of language is restricted (even if I happen to believe we need real incentives for oligarchs).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

But the rule cited isn't about that. It's about fellow users.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The only good reason is to limit liability if someone breaks the law with their speech.

And it only breaks the law when that speech is undeniably organizing people to break the law. Simply wishing harm upon someone isn't a credible threat, and does not break the law.

I wish these pricks would jump off a cliff

Not illegal.

Hey, join me this Thursday to push rich people off the cliff located at the following GPS coords...

Illegal.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I would argue that's a pretty provincial attititude; one that clearly doesn't work if you think about it beyond theatrical polemical statements.

It may sound noble and well thought out on a superficial level though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

If i moderated a forum or ran a coffee shop where The New York Commune was organized, I'd be proud as fuck. There's no way youd get me to shut up about thatuntil you cut out my tounge and had me eaten alive or pulled apart by horses or something. So like a couple months maybe.

But, you know, if you just want to keep from doing anything bad you can do that, and if you want to stay just that side of the law, you can do that. You can clarify that. You can even clarify how far on that side of the law, like 'i never want the police to have an excuse to bug me about this shit. I do not have a self deleting setup, logs are publ8c, and im too lazy/don't like you people enough for that'.

But these 'no violence' rules, which, again, were not the stated reasoning for this removal, never seem to be about that. They seem to be about support for (extremely violent) authority, without ever saying that, and each has its own contours.
