This couldn't even happen if the guns those idiots owned had decent safety mechanisms such as heavy first pull, an actual safety switch or I don't know NOT BE FUCKING LYING AROUND LOADED AND READY TO BE FIRED

I love the detail about how he set it down intending to clean it with a round still in the chamber. This man should not be allowed to own a firearm.

You cannot clean a gun while it’s loaded. The whole “I was cleaning it and it went off” is bs. Unless he was actively firing the pistol in his house there’s zero reason to plop that shit on the couch loaded.

That's exactly what they do, these people are obsessed with the idea that someone is going to break in at night and try to hurt their family.

I had a colleague who invited me to dinner and just casually plopped his pistol on the counter before serving his kids dinner, and explained why it's always loaded and has a round chambered, he worried the intruder would be so high on drugs that a single shot might not stop them, so you need the gun ready to go so you can react fast and hit him several times to take him down. This same explanation was given to me by a few people.

It was out of the kids' reach, holstered, and the safety was on. He has very strict rules that he follows when handling the gun, he was very aware of his gun when he allowed me to handle it, after he unchambered it, and made sure I swept the ground and pointed it at the top of the exterior wall of the house where no neighbors live. I didn't feel unsafe at any moment, but that druggie scenario isn't one I was worried about in our very safe suburban neighborhoods.

I have kids, and I have guns. I'm a leftists who believes an armed minority is harder to oppress. My kids don't know that I have guns and don't have access to them, and won't until they are able to understand why we have them. You can't expect them to just know to be responsible gun owners just because you are.

He loaded his cleaning bullets and started blasting

NOT BE FUCKING LYING AROUND LOADED AND READY TO BE FIRED

This guy bought the gun to protect his family! What if some gang members busted through his front door and started attacking his family? The gun needs to be loaded with one in the chamber and laying on the kitchen table for maximum family protection!

[-] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago

Well his family wasn't gonna shoot themselves.

Wait.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

with the safety off and the firing pin back

[-] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

firing pin back

Are you thinking of the hammer? The firing pin is always "back" unless the gun is going boom.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Safeties won't protect against curious toddlers. Definitely don't leave firearms out around children, though.

Never store a firearm loaded. Firearm safety 101. If you own guns but not a safe or a shit ton of trigger or action locks then you’re doing it wrong.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

Pass. What’s the point of my bedside emergency gun if it’s not loaded. If you have kids though lock em up.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

If you have kids though lock em up.

That's solid advice even when you don't have guns.

This is about the Epstein files isn't it.

Always has been.

It’s certainly not responsible of you to keep a loaded firearm next to your bed, that sounds like paranoia, if you’re an American then you’re just going to ignore this comment however, if you legally own a firearm outside of America please be responsible and take safety seriously.

Home invasions happen my dude. Why not be prepared? I make good money in an area that’s largely low income, I’m not taking any chances. Trigger can’t pull itself, you gun nuts crack me up. Who is it irresponsible to? The kids I don’t have?

Owning a firearm for you is a right, for everyone else around the world it’s a privilege. Being a responsible firearms owner is more important than you may think, which means proper storage of ammunition, parts and guns themselves.

Home invasions happen my dude. Why not be prepared?

Yes, they do happen however, your response should be proportionate in such an event. Again for you self defence in your home is a right given the castle doctrine law, not everyone who possesses a firearm has the right to shoot intruders.

Trigger can’t pull itself

No but an un-informed individual could load truncated ammo into a tubular magazine, drop the gun and have their entire upper receiver blow off.

you gun nuts crack me up.

What’s nuts is your blatant carelessness in regard to firearm ownership and handling.

Who the fuck is going through my nightstand in my house? I have no kids. Wack. For that matter, if someone was rifling through my stuff they probably deserve to get shot, nobody should be going through my nightstand. I have a safe as well, but that’s for security, not safety. There is only one form of gun safety and it’s knowing how to handle a gun. That and them being locked around kids, but as stated I don’t have kids, and kids don’t come to my house.

Officers arrived and found Guerra holding the victim, a 2-year-old boy with a gunshot wound on his upper left arm and a broken humerus, court documents said.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 4 days ago

Guerra told officers that he set the firearm on the couch, intending to clean it, but he got distracted watching online videos on his computer, court documents said.

Even if this dude serves time and gets out, he should never have custody again.

Also, we need to start teaching gun safety in the womb. There's just no other way to protect kids.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

All these gun nerds are asking the wrong questions; what video was he watching?

[-] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

As a responsible father, he searched youtube for a video of how to clean the gun when you are around a toddler but got distracted by three 30 sec ads side by side. That's how it's happened, Your Majesty. My client is not at fault.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago

Gun owners love stories about idiot gun accidents because it allows them to imagine "responsible" gun ownership is a thing.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago

It is a thing
