Can't collect as much data on web platform due to all those pesky ad blockers...

But as a mobile app:

Can't serve as many ads on the website because of ad blockers tho.

LinkedIn. Where you can read endless and meaningless hubris from managers who used to abuse you.

They can harvest more personal data with an app, why would they improve the website.

It's a lie anyway, LinkedIn isn't better on the app. Nothing can make it better, it's just shit.

I despise that messaging on sites.

More websites should take example from Stack Exchange. A while ago I was wondering where their app had gone, turns out they unpublished it so that people only use the mobile site (which works pretty well).

If I want to visit 10 different sites, I shouldn't have to install 10 different apps (of which many are just webview wrappers anyway).

For God's sake? God isn't on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn have been doing this shit for years. I'd load their site through Firefox for Android and see this stuff constantly. I raised an issue several years ago suggesting that they should at least use a cookie to suppress the nagging and a tech sympathized with me but clearly nothing was done.

Because the bottom line is they want people using the app. Not because the experience is better for me, but because it's better for them - they can scrape contacts, track activity, push notifications and generally just do abusive shit that a website can't. Everyone who checks into this site once a week or less often should just delete the BS app and load the site from time to time. The whole service is just a meat market anyway so there is no reason to make things even worse.

Before any of the usual suspects comes in to defend LinkedIn for "trying to make money", have you tried publishing a job offering on LinkedIn? If you haven't, shut up, they're already making cash. If you have, my brother in Christ, you think they need MORE???

The lemmy app voyager (wefwef) proves this id a lie. That webapp could have fooled me it was a native app.

If anything it's (cr)app... the worst of all apps I've installed. It's laggy as hell.

Never used LinkedIn. I used to tutor kids and one parent tried to connect with me on the site. Since I didn't have an account, LinkedIn sent an email alerting me that someone was trying to connect with me. The amount of emails I got from LinkedIn was insane. Multiple emails every day for weeks. I couldn't unsubscribe bc I didn't have an account. Reporting it as spam didn't help either. I finally had to go into the site, create an account, set all the settings to never contact me, and then promptly deleted the account. Hadn't received an email from then since.

Many comments go on how data collection is so bad in many if not all mobile phone apps. My take is to treat the phone as that, a persona that's being spied upon. Then I have my Linux computer where I may do more private stuff. Of course, this is no silver bullet. It's just my current state of mind. At some point I might switch to a Linux phone, but I kind of need WhatsApp (lived without it a year or so, lost contact with many people)

Websites are an already dying medium, most interactions on Meta's services happen on smarphones, reddit is nudging its users to download the App. and most dating websites have died while Apps developped by refuse to offer a web version.
